Cool Trans questions, please, help with advice...

Is it possible to switch the trans from a '73 single cab reg bed (engine unknown) to an '84 swb? I ask because my trans crossmember was torched and has gobs missing. After having frame welded by gearbox.
The owner jack @ larue has a '73 or '76 can't really remember, and since they've royally and totally screwed up everything they did. I'm wondering if they stole my trans and switched it for his. As I had no trans leaks before it went to his shop.
Can someone tell me where the vin is located on the trans, and does it include any of the actual vin?
As always advice is welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ok, looked in an old post his is a 76 single cab reg bed.
Mine is a 305 swb, in the pic of my trans it looks to be a th350, going by the trans pan.

They had a short tail and a long tail th350, some trucks got different ones. I highly doubt someone would steal a transmission because theirs leaked... sitting around since 08 will cause seals to harden or crack... especially in this texas heat.

as far as I know, theres not a trans vin. hope this helps

Actually, it started leaking a few weeks after it came from that shop.

Do any of the bellhousing bolts, crossmember bolts, any of them look like they have been messed with? There will usually be a nice coating of grease on everything from the years.

Measure it.

There are actually 3 different lengths of tailshafts for the Turbo 350 transmission: 6", 9" and 12".

12 is a stationwagon i think. The stationwagons used a 400 with a longer shaft also.
