69 k20 axle/motor swap

Ok so I found a 87 chevy 1 ton dually. The truck has a14bff rear a dana 60 front and a fuel injected 454 (that has a knock). I could get the truck minus the trans and transfer case for $1500, is this a good deal? Secondly what problems will I run into swapping the axles motor and harness into my 69 k20?

In Cali, Dana 60s run for $1000 plus. You do the math. I'd say yes.

You do know the 1 ton rear ends spring perches are located closer in not sure how the early frames are but for the later frame you will need to move them in my case cut them off a little high don't try and save them and risk cutting into the axle then grind them down and just go to ballistic fabrication and buy there's, i have them and they worked great and came with enclosure plates to fill the holes but i didn't use them

Also its a dually so it will have the dually version of the dana 60 although it can be converted im not 100% on what all needs to be done but its not exactly the same as the single wheel unless your truck is a dually and as chevy1tonfun said it to me is also a good deal assuming all is well as d60s in southern il and stl mo they are the same aka ridiculous

last question your saying your swapping in the motor as well? it has a knock so i don't quite follow and is the truck a FF rear end of a d60 or d70 i think those came in duallys but then again i only can answer so much lol

I was told a single wheel hub for the dana 60 will be all I need up front to convert from a dually. Will the dana 60 bolt directly under my truck? The rear end that I will be using is a gm 14 bolt full float. As for the motor I wanted to fix the knock and swap it into my 69 but I was unsure how the harness would work. Maybe it would be easier to convert the 454 to a carb I'm not sure.

I thought it was also just a hub conversion but some guy told me it needs machined so I'm not 100% sure and as for it swapping under I'm not sure how different the older frame are but I put an 86 D60 in place of a 91 10 bolt and it was a direct 100% bolt in brakelines, driveshaft and all except the passenger side spring plate you'll need it but the driver side will work from the old axle

As far as the 14 bolt goes is it from a 3/4t or a 1 ton as the 3/4 should swap under the 1 ton will most likely need perches moved

And hopefully a majority of my info is correct lol should be hopefully someone else chimes in

I have put my 69 C10 next to my M1008 (87) and measured the front dana 60and the 14FF and the spring perches width/spacing are exactly the same on both.

The only thing I'm confused on (not that it matters for the swap) is that the M1008 is referred too as a "five quarter" meaning its rated at 1 and a quarter ton. I'm guessing that when I pull the axles the Dana 60/14FF are all the same-the 5/4 only applies to the leaf springs.

Somebody please chime in if you have knowledge on this.

Should just apply to the springs I think and maybe the frame might be slightly thicker than a regular one ton although I doubt it as far as the perches being the same that surprises me but that's a good thing they do

The front end will bolt right in no issues there. The rear end will bolt in as well, 1 ton 73-87 chevys have the same spring perch width in the rear as all the 67-72s do. You will however have to change the mounts for the rear shocks i believe, i think 67-72s are both on the same side of the axle tube and 73-87s have on shock on each side (one side in front of the axle tube, one on the back side) As for the motor, I have no first hand experience with putting big blocks in 67-72 4x4s but from what I've seen on here you need to move the motor forward from the small block location to have firewall clearance. As for wiring up the TBI setup, there are many sites online if you search that have the wiring diagrams, a friend of mine did it to a '73 that he put a tbi small block in you end up with a constant 12v hot lead, an ignition keyed 12v source, and a ground.
