250 inline 6 1 bbl it screws into the side of the carb and the guy who rebuilt my carb told me it was bad it has something to do with the idle so i need to find another one i just dont know what this is called please help. Thanks.

That would be the "idle stop solenoid". When you turn the key to "on" the solenoid receives current and a plunger sticks out to bump up the throttle. When you shut the vehicle off, the solenoid retracts the plunger, allowing the throttle plates to fully close and prevent dieseling.

Mine was bad on the Monojet for my 292. I went to my local carquest and asked for a new one. They wanted 387 dollars for the idle stop solenoid. I rigged up a bolt on the carb that keeps the throttle bumped up a bit to provide a steady idle, but not so far as to make the engine diesel when shutting it off. This seems to work well and was essentially free.

You should test it out and make sure its bad before replacing, because if the guy that rebuilt your carb didn't know what it was called and just said its bad that sounds kind of suspect to me. But then again I'm always picky about knowing why something is "bad", especially for the price the guy above mentioned.
