Picked up 72 Cheynne & 71 GMC

The 72' is a Cheyenne Super we picked up a couple weeks ago, just the cab and chassis. My dad wants to build a tow rig out of a square body flatbed dually he's getting off my uncle, using the 72' cab, while I take the suspension and swap out my 67' 8 lug (hello 5 lug and disk brakes ). The 71' is pretty much wasted, we picked it up in hopes of some parts for the other project, and the tires for my dads s10. I'll get some pics up later, gonna go through it and see if there's anything good to scavenge, and maybe from pics ya'll might see something you can use.

Re: Picked up 72 Cheynne & 71 GMC

The poor 71' is a bit worse than we even thought. Got the truck off of new member baconfuel, who told us how he loaned the truck to a small production company who in turn blew the engine, and then left it on the side of the freeway, for him to retrieve, and wow did they do a job on it. the motor literally grenades out of the sides of the oil pan. and I do have pics and will post them but they're on my dads phone and neither him nor I know how to get them from there to here, so we're gonna get my sister to email them to me so I can post.

The bed is that bad, it has lots of patches inside, and the bed floor is sheet metal swiss cheese. I'm probably wasting space with this one on here. Maybe some specifics would help, if you need a patch panel for the outer skin, say around the back window or even the rooftop, it seems pretty solid, and the doors and hood I think could be saved, floor is mostly gone, rust around the windshield on the inside, seems to be a lot of mud work on the finders, headlight rings seem solid, just painted. Could be something though that somebody needs,so if you want some more info or anyone else thinks there is something big or small on this you might need, and want a pic or info let me know. It will be becoming scrap metal real soon so don't hesitate to ask.
I feel for the poor ol', so much that something has to live on from it .

I'll get a good look at it tomorrow and get some pics up for ya. I don't know if it matters, and you may be able to tell, its an 8 ft. bed.

Sorry I forgot all about this until now. Those running boards were toast, but the brackets seem to be in very good shape if that's something you need, he did keep them.

Re: Picked up 72 Cheynne & 71 GMC

Now for a new question. Everything has been cut up for scrape, and the cab is going to be pieced out for some panels and thats where the question comes in. The firewall looks to be in decent shape so I was wondering if something like that would be worth saving?
I'm not sure how much work my dad is willing to do to save parts but he's a nice guy so ya never know, if someone really needs something.
