Blazer tailgate panel

For those of you who have put these on your PU's, what clips did you use to hold them on?

On the blazer the tailgate panel comes off on the inside to access the nuts for the clips LMC sells right?

Thanks

Re: Blazer tailgate panel

In order to put the blazer panel on the pickup tailgate you have to take a pickup insert and re-move the out trim panel. You use the blazer outter trim panel on the pickup inner panel. It takes a little bit of doing to get it perfect without bending the blazer panel.

Re: Blazer tailgate panel

No pictures but it is pretty basic just tedious. Blazer and Truck trim panels each consist of 2 aluminum pieces. The outside piece has a flange that wraps around the inside piece. You need to seperate both pieces on both panels the match up the truck rear panel to the blazer front panel. You also need to be sure to use the correct year panels for your truck. I learned this the hard way. I used an early trim panel(my truck is a 77 on a later(85) tailgate and it never fit quite right as the indented opening on the 85 is wider so there was always a gap. I now have the correct year tailgate to work with my trim panel

Re: Blazer tailgate panel

Tim,

First there are NO "clips"
1. Get a pickup panel....a beat up one is perfect to destroy.
2. Get a blazer panel....you want a nice one.
3. Turn pickup panel face down and start peeling up the edge of the outer panel that locks the inner panel to it.....this is time consuming...they don't "peel" as easy as they dent!
4. Turn blazer panel face down and CAREFULLY peel the outer skin from the inner.
5. Discard the pickup OUTER panel and the blazer INNER panel.
6. Place the pickup inner panel back on the blazer outer panel.
7. With a plastic mallet or body hammer carefully begin folding the outer panel over the inner panel like the factory did it.
8. Your done!

Re: Blazer tailgate panel

You'll also have to do some slight trimming on the backside of the corners for the panel to fit flush on the tailgate. Snips will do the trick, it's easy. The pickup panel is trimmed like this from the facory, I used that as a reference.

Now i just need a handle flip kit..

.....and a bumper too.

Re: Blazer tailgate panel

I have already installed a Sir Michaels smooth tailgate skin, does that change anything?

Re: Blazer tailgate panel

Yes it will. If you welded it in already then you have no recess for the panel to sit in. If you look at the suburban and blazer tailgate, even though they are flat, they have a small recess.

Trucks have a deep recess, that's why they require the mounting panel behind the band.

Re: Blazer tailgate panel

Yeah if you smoothed the tailgate no stock tail gate band will fit anymore.
