Tri 5 small block??
Will the small blocks from the 55,56,57 Bel Airs fit the same year trucks? I usually hang out in the 67-72 forum but have a 55 small block that has been in my family's possession since the 60s and it is finally time to at least get it out of my Grandma's basement. We have been looking for a buyer in the car market but maybe there is a market from the truck enthusiasts out there to. If it will work i will post it separately. If not, i might post it anyway.

Yes it will fit if mounted the original way. I think that 55 is by itsself in certain ways. I think it should sell real good to someone that wants a numbers matched engine.

A 55 265 would most likely be of most interest to someone who is attempting to restore a car to show room original. You might find someone who is restoring a second series 55 to showroom original who needs a correct 55 engine but outside of the guys who are doing 100% original restorations the market is probably pretty limited for that engine.
They make nice display engines too. This one was at the Portland Roadster Show this year. If you have recieved no interest in it from the 55 car bunch is there the possibility that you have priced it too high for an engine that will most likely have to be completely gone through and outside of it's heritage is actually a core engine? |

So the engine is completely dissassembled right now. It does not have the original heads but later model corvette style "fuelie" heads. My uncle and I are assuming who ever buys it would want to have everything checked out as previous posts have said but we have considered assembling it.
What are your thoughts? To assemble to not to assemble? The bigger question...Whats it worth? I know we are looking at a fairly small audience of buyers who would be looking for a numbers matching block.

265's have some limited interest because of the cannister oil filter too. You might check with Hemmings, etc. to find the person looking for the right casting and date code. Also post over a the HAMB abd Stovebolts boards, they are stock and old school orientated.

If you have the 4bbl oil bath set-up those are hard to find.
The block and heads are so-so, the forged crank could bring some $$$. If your looking for cash part it out. If you just want to get it out of the way put a good price on it and itll be gone. Im one of those guys that think an early sbc in factory dress is pure sex and wouldnt sell it if my boys had to eat cheerios for a month. Posted via Mobile Device |
