Starting a CCSB build and advice needed
My daughter is turning 16 this month and for some reason she expects a car. Imagine that. I dont want 2 car payments so I decided to sell my new crew cab and fix up a old crew as I get the time and money so I can buy her something nice. Here are a few pics of what I'm starting with. I contacted Ebfabman and he is going to shorten the frame for me. As for the suspension I havent decided whether I want to go 1/2 ton or keep it 1 ton. I do know that I want to lower it and it will probably be a static drop. Has anyone lowered a 1 ton? If so are the parts readily available?

Re: Starting a CCSB build and advice needed
Does anyone know how much is taken out of the frame? I want to run dual fuel tanks and was wondering if I am going to have to change the rear springs from the long ones to the shorter ones so the tanks will fit. It looks like I have about 24" between the rear of the cab and the front spring hanger on the rear.

Re: Starting a CCSB build and advice needed
You will remove 14" starting about a 1 1/2" behind the front bed bolt hole. You can measure back from the rear cabmount to make sure you get the same distance on both sides. You also will need to take 3 1/2" off of the rear.
You can stay with dual tanks but you will have to change to the 16 gallon tanks to make them work. Check out some of the build threads that are on here. Looks like a nice truck to start with.

Re: Starting a CCSB build and advice needed
Agreed, nice starting point.....
3/4 & 1-ton drop spindles were available from Bell Tech, Western Chassis, & DJM. Start your search there. The 16 gal tanks are the 1/2 ton short bed tanks & should be easy enough to source. Removing leafs, flip kit, & an air-over-leaf set-up will drop the rear or you could opt to remove the leafs altogether for RideTechs HD rear 4-bar set-up.

Re: Starting a CCSB build and advice needed
I bought shortbed fuel tanks and sending units for a 87 since I want to run efi. I also have a perfect shortbed with dual tank doors and 91 Suburban front clip. Just waiting on Ebfabman to finish his current customer. I am next in line.

Re: Starting a CCSB build and advice needed
Remember Early Classic Enterprises sell a 3/4-ton to 1/2-ton conversion spindle for the front.
These ECE spindles allow you to run all the same balljoints and tie rod ends,... but the spindle accepts a 1/2-ton rotor and caliper. I know your truck is a 1-ton,... but the balljoints are the same as the 3/4-ton trucks. Makes the front swap to 1/2-ton simple.

You'd be waaay ahead to find a donor truck with 1/2 ton running gear and swap it over in my opinion. There is 1 ton lowering stuff, but it's limited.
