Missing heat riser
Finially looked at the passenger side exhaust leak Ive had since I brought it home. Took a minute but realized some one has removed the heat riser. The studs are way to long to tighten up and I see no way a donut could seal in the manifold opening even if shorter studs were installed. Is the only option to buy a new heat riser or can what I have be made to work. Hate to spend so much on a part when I would not use its actual function anyway. It would just be a spacer at this point. Should have added this in on a 78 k20 with a little 400

Re: Missing heat riser
Maybe just time for headers then? Or you can go to a wrecking yard grab a heat riser and pull the insides out jb weld the holes and use it basicly as a spacer

Re: Missing heat riser
I took the heat raiser out on mine and exchanged the studs for short ones, put in a donut and have not had any leak issues.
Old studs were a pain to get out tough.

Re: Missing heat riser
Short studs and a donut. The manifold is otherwise the same as one without a heat riser. (in other words, don't bother with a heat riser. doesn't serve much purpose anyway, even here where the winters get cold in the rust belt, heat risers fall by the wayside once they corrode to the point of siezing).

Re: Missing heat riser
Thanks you for the replies - I'll get the shorter studs and pull the manifold this week end to change it over. I did not realize the right manifold was made inside to accept the donut gasket . Glad I do not have to buy a $60.00 part just for spacer.

Re: Missing heat riser
mine had to be heated, hence the colour change
depending on the shape you may need some heat on them to come out most pitted/rusted i've tried, have snapped off

Re: Missing heat riser
You can also drill the holes and use small freeze plugs instead of JB Weld for a neat appearance.

Re: Missing heat riser
Yes they do. Mine has 'em hanging on a peg in a blister pack of two. Yeah, TWO. Not three, not four (foUrtunately), but two.
