87 Interior Restore (my first square)
This is my first project, my first square, and my first time working on a truck at all... Feel free to offer advice!
Bought an 87 R10 with very little rust. The body is in nice shape, paint is OK (clear is pealing), Wheels are nasty, and the interior is trashed... The truck is running well, so my first focus is the interior. I plan on pulling out the seat, carpet, headliner, dashpad, and all the trim. I want to paint the trim and door panels, recover the headliner, replace the dash, and possibly replace the seat if I find a deal on one that doesn't need foam. Here are some current pics... (note: the rear glass has been replaced) As you can see, the dash is in bad shape... I went to a swap meet the other day and scored a replacement for $50... It's a darker brown, almost red wine color... My plan is to dye it along with the rest of my trim pieces... Question... I think my interior is saddle in color, does that look right? Will I have any trouble taking that dash from a darker to a lighter color? I plan on using SEM products, but I'm not sure which ones specifically yet...any help is appreciated. I do have a spray booth in my shop. After the headliner, trim, doors, and dash are sorted... on to the bottom half. The seat needs new foam on the drivers side. I'm not sure if it's easier to refoam then recover, or try to find one for sale that has foam and needs only a re-cover. I plan on removing the carpet and putting down a layer of foam/foil duct insulation then a layer of mass loaded vinyl, then a rubber floor mat. Hopefully this will cut out noise and vibration. the duct insulation is this stuff: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...&storeId=10051 All while doing this I'll be replacing the speakers and wiring the stereo (dash is already cut). I've got 4 rally wheels, rings, and caps... they're black but I'm blasting and painting them argent silver. Seem like a good start? Cheers Taylor

If you're going through the trouble of tearing everything out and buying MLV, I'd get an actual deadener instead of using insulation from Home Depot.
a package of raam mat is $89 and should be plenty. |

Do you use the Raam Mat in addition to the MLV?

yeah. basically raam mat instead of peel&seal, then closed cell foam, then MLV, then your carpet or rubber mat or whatever.

can get it plenty of places
SDS has it Raam Mat Ensolite McMaster Carr even sells it, along with MLV. |

I'd like to see a better picture of your rims if you have the chance.
I heard that Ensolite or even closed cell foam does trap water/moisture and leads to rust anyways...not sure how true or not that is.

The best shots I have of the rims... They're coming off.
I've got a set of Rally's I'm blasting and painting. I'm not a fan of these rims... Cheers!

I agree, the Rallyes look better.
Good luck on the interior, these trucks are easy to work on and just a few simple changes the interiors can be brought back pretty quick.
