grill removal

Now ive already removed my grill for painting around the lights and inserts and making it look new again but it was a total pain to remove it. How is everyone else removing theirs? Maybe i missed a step. Should i have removed the bumper first? With the ammount of bolts it is held on with it seems like the grill was a structural part of the truck. Really?

Please inform.

Re: grill removal

I always removed the bumper, I bet it was tough to get the grill off with the bumper on.

I removed the inner grill and outer supports on mine to clean them up and paint them and so I could polish the grill and they were a nightmare to get off. It was held together with flat head screws which aren't easy to get out with 40 years of rust on them.

What year is the truck your working on?

Re: grill removal

When it comes to the front fenders and grill first off and last on with the bumper can make life easier. Unless rust is involved!

Re: grill removal

By the time I realized I should've pulled the bumper I had the grill 3/4 way off. I had gone too far to turn back.
