Chrome shops

I like the looks of the shaved bumbers and decided to do it myself vs paying $350+ for a new one. Trying to decide if I'm going to paint or chrome it. May do the grill as well. Any of you guys ever dealt with chrome shops & if so, how much did it cost ya?

I was quoted 400 per bumper at a shop here in Seattle.

Advance plating Nashville ,Tn. 55 chevy truck hood emblem $115 and it was show quality.

Prices are all over the place from around 100 bucks in some states to the 400 in Seattle that 11Chuck mentioned. Local conditions on different things have a lot to do with that Labor costs being a big one.

I don't know what Advance plating's prices are but they hold the reputation of being one of the top go to chrome shops in the country and do work for the top rod shops in the country on a regular basis. You have the shipping costs both ways to add into it though.

This weekend we were talking about chroming bumpers. Ogden chrome in Utah charges about $380 for a TF or 60's, includes fixing any problems, straightening, filling lholes , scratches, stripping and triple chrome plating to show finish. Price is the same if you bring in a mangled one or very good driver that just needs refreshed. Most of the show work in this region is done there.

Powder Coat? I've seen some good looking stuff.

Chrome, Royal Silver in Norfolk is the only "local" chrome shop I'm aware of.

Also, Advance Plating mentioned above is a top shelf company, their work is perfect.

You might find that buying a chrome grill would be cheaper than getting one plated.

Its the states DEQ laws that drives the price, that's why import parts are cheaper, no pollution rules and almost free labor. Buddy in Tx, goes south across the border, with a truck load of parts on Friday, comes back with chrome on Monday, but the freight costs will get.

I just called Royal Silver and was told I can buy a new one for a third of what it would cost to rechrome it!

That's generally true, but you also have to consider that the quality of the chrome you're going to get is usually also 3 times as good. It really all depends what you're after as a final result.

A guy in my car club had a bumper repaired and rechromed for a 1953 Oldsmobile at a place in Cincinnati OH called D & G Chrome. I thought they did a very good job and he was very impressed also. Their phone #513-531-1881.

Also, at least locally here, there are chrome guys that setup at the swap meets. You can give them the parts and they'll bring them back at the next swap meet in the area and you can save on shipping. At the last descent size meet I went to there were 3 places all from CA with booths and I am in WA.

Hmmm, what did you use it on & how well has it held up?

I used it on a bumper and some other smaller trim parts that weren't being reproduced for another vehicle I had and didn't feel like paying more for the chroming than I had total invested in the project. For the 2 years I had it it never showed any loss in appearance.
