electric fan switch?

What have you used for temperature controlled fan switch? I'm looking at Summit now and they appear to have 4-5 different ones available.

I looked around for different setups, most costing 50.00 or more, then I ran across an adjustable electric fan setup. This comes with all the wiring, a set of relays and a temp probe that goes into the radiator cooling fins. It's all enclosed in a mounting block and works really well. Best of all I think it cost $25.00. I can get the part number for you if this is what your looking for.

They also have one that is adjustable for $35.

I'll get the number for you in the morning (I have to call the parts store we buy from).

Here is a shot of mine installed. This model controls up to 2 fans and has the adjuster built into this block.

If the kit does not include it, it might be a good idea to have a manual over ride toggle in the cab some place...maybe in the glove box if you don't want to look at a stupid switch every day.
I waould also stear clear of the type that you shove the probe into the rad hose...I've seen that type cause too many problems in the past.

I went with the Painless kit myself. I prefer to have the sensor in the head instead of the radiator. This way the fans will come on based on the engine temp.

Again, I feel that the fans should come on when the hot water goes to the radiator. The fans cool the water in radiator, not the block. So the sensor should be in the radiator near the top inlet. The one I have is pushed through the fins.

Ok, just got a call back and I was wrong on the price.
They screwed up on mine when I bought it, it was only 30.00 then.

Now the price is around 40.00, but I'd pay that again... its a good design and works well.

If the switch was in the head and not the radiator, it would not work properly.
The coolant in the engine should be cool as it coes in since the rad just cooled it, so then the switch would turn the fan off....but the rad just filled up with hot coolant, so now the fan is off when it needs to be on.
The new vehicles have the sensor in the rad.

They are used both ways guys... Depending on the manufacture of the car/truck. Alot of the imports like to use a sensor in the radiator were as most american cars locate the sensor in the head/intake/thermostat housing.

Either one will work just fine though.
