What Do You Guys Think?

I have a chance to get this truck, it only needs a windshield and bed floor. What do you guys think of this truck, and what should I look out for? Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Looks like a good project. I do see some rust popping thru on the cowl, [behind driver side hood hinge], a common rust prone area. Since there is rust there check the inside of the roof above windshield, drip rail above the windshield on the outside, kick panels inside of the cab, front floors, rear floors on either side of the gas tank, and the cab supports. Also it looks like the back of the cab corner on the driver side is pulled out, check that out too. Also some of the AC stuff is missing too. I'm just going off of the pics. I would say in the neighborhood of $800.00 would be about right for what i see. Joseph

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

What are they asking for it? Does it run and drive? What are your plans for it if you buy it? Are you looking for a driver, or something to pull everything apart, frame off, and / or drop members for example?

I just try not to buy more than I really need going into the project. Ex. Stuff that I would be taking off anyway. I also look for projects where someone else has already done all the expensive stuff. .. the end result being a much better built car / truck and less money out of my pocket, both initially and once it is complete.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

I can get it for $600 or trade for something. I want it as a daily driver and a "toy". I will try to go see it sometime soon.

For only 600 dollars i would get it. Project truck, parts truck or whatever. Got to think if the motor runs and you got a tranny that right there is worth the asking price.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Okay, didn't think about that either. So this truck is worth my time going to look at?

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Yeah, in driver condition it's 2500 or so where I come from.

It is a swb correct? Sometimes I cant tell.. but you could part it out for more than 600. Do they have the title and everything? Does the complete bed come with it?

I did the same thing I thought it was swb too but it's lwb. Title yes, bed is complete but needs a floor because it was a wood floor and rotted out, and needs a windsheild too.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Nothing wrong with a long bed

The first thing i would do is lay underneath it and look at the cab supports, cab corners, mounts, inner rockers and cab floors right around the kick panels and rocker sill plates. Also look underneath the sun visors around the top edge of the windshield. Post up some pictures if you still want to think about getting it (?) And just get opinions etc. I usually take some really strong magnets with me too... check for filler. My wife used to work for Duracell and i have a bunch of tiny but powerful magnets they use in production. A good air cab ( just the cab ) is worth 400 or so IMO. If its not real rusty i wouldnt let the long bed change my mind.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Bed size is not a factor here, I like both long and short beds. Wouldn't have thought to take a magnet that's a good idea. Will check all those areas, anything else I should be looking for?
