Gas tank float
Does anyone sell just the float for the sending unit? My sending unit is brand new, along with the tank, but the float has a hole in it.

Re: Gas tank float
not that i have ever seen, if the hole is small enough and you can solder you can fix the float. i had to do that on mine.

Re: Gas tank float
i've purchased floats at local autoparts stores local marine supply stores
have also taken and dipped floats in gastank sealer (somewhat marginal results)

Re: Gas tank float
I replaced mine with a solid plastic float for a 65 Mustang. Works great, $8, and fits just like stock. No more worrying about the cheap aftermarket brass floats getting leaks!

This is the one I bought. The end is brass and fits perfect in the sending unit. then the rest is solid resin/plastic. http://www.ebay.com/itm/65-66-67-68-...r#ht_500wt_922

Re: Gas tank float
Thanks lowgt! i just bought one of these from your link. It will work with the factory sending unit right? I bought a new sending unit and float and it crapped out after about a week with the new brass float. I hope this solves the problem. I'm tired of not having a working gas gauge. Joseph

Re: Gas tank float
Hey no problem guys! Im going to buy one of those plastic ones too! I pulled one out of an extra tank I had and it was rotten. Like literally like a piece of rotten drift wood.

Re: Gas tank float
No problem, I might have to order another one. I think it will work in my 59 Buick which is having the same float problem.

Re: Gas tank float
This has me a bit interested... My gauge has always worked but in a quirky kind of way. But it's also been very reliable so I've made no efforts to fix it. Basically a full tank sits just above the 1/4 tank mark and no more, 1/8 being a half tank, and empty when just below the final mark. It'll go a little below but just barely. It has always worked this way since I've owned the truck in '03 and who knows how long before that.
Might have to pick one of these up.
