speedo gear reduction box part

On my 75 k20 the speedo has never worked. I bought a new cable last week and hooked it to the gauge and spun the cable to confirm that it worked. The gauge is fine but when I get back to the gear reduction box it has a female type end with a spot for a tang and the cable is just a square end. I took the reduction box off the transfer case and it has this male tang thing on the gear shaft that goes into the other end of the reduction box. The gear looks fine so no problem there. I guess there must be some kinda tang piece that slides over the end of the speedo cable that goes into the reduction box? Anyone know what I'm talking about haha? Or where I can get this piece. Love this site btw so much good info on here and nice people. Thanks!

Re: speedo gear reduction box part

I know exactly what you mean. There is a little adapter piece that snaps into the gear reduction box so your cable will work.

Actually they make 3 or 4 different adapters depending on the cable you have. I'm not so sure it's anything you would find at a local parts store.

You may find them at a speedo shop if you have one of those in the area.

I bought them (along with the reduction boxes) from an online speedo place. Hold on and I'll grab the link....

Re: speedo gear reduction box part

Here are a couple of pics of just what you need. I have a square adapter already installed in this reduction box (which is #7713 in the instructions. It will also come with a plastic sleeve that goes in first (which is #7740 in the instructions), then the desired metal pin adapter.

Here is also a pic of the instructions...Save these pics if you need them, as my photobucket account will delete them in a couple days....

Wow thanks guys for all the responses. I will check the website out. So one of these is a hollow square adapted right? Cause my cable is square at the end. Thanks

If your cable has a male square end then you simply install that plastic insert or sleeve (#7740 on the sheet) and your cable goes right in without the metal adapters.

Re: speedo gear reduction box part

Anyone know where I can find one of these tips at. I ordered one from the place above two weeks ago and haven't heard or seen anything show. Just anxious to get this speedo fixed.
