Cool How to install distribtor cap

My scum/slumlord is telling me, my truck has to be moved because the city will fine her.
Long story short, she says the truck needs to be moved away from the house asap. Guess, I'll be moving next month.
Anywho, please, excuse the ranting.
Ok, I am having a hard time reconnecting distributor cap. Pulley and damper were turned by accident with distrib cap off, but turned back to original position. Any help to get it back on would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: How to install distribtor cap

if the cap is just off it dont matter just put it back but it you pullled wires off the cap thenbring the motor up on #1 tdc compression and run the firing order. same goes for if you pulled the hole distributor too. #1 tdc set in with rotor facing #1 cyl and then install cap and play with the timeing but if you are a tooth off it can play hell with you. good luck man

if you only pulled the cap, it's not an issue. just put it back on.

Silly me, tried to remove damper and pulley with a ratchet, being cheap. Anyway, it turned clockwise I turned it back. Any advice to get the cap back on?

The cap is notched and will only go on one way, sometimes you just have to hold your tongue right. Make sure there isn't a wire or something getting in the way. (or you forgot to screw down the rotor). As long as you didn't pull the distributor out, you should be able to turn the engine until the cows come home.

Set the cap on, turn until it drops down, (once it drops into the notch you won't be able to turn just the cap.) lock it down.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Cool Re: How to install distribtor cap

The cap is on, but now the locking screws are semi frozen, they will not go down but I can turn them slightly. One keeps hitting the vaccum.
Noob, here so excuse the multiple questions. Thanks.

Re: How to install distribtor cap

I believe the screws are spring loaded, so you have push them down below the bottom of the rotor, then turn the screw so the elbow rotates under the rotor, and the spring pops it back up, holding it in place. If the screws are indeed frozen, you could probably bennfefit from a new cap.
