New 4 Eyes Project! '59 Apache!
After several long months of searching and searching, the end is finally here. I am the proud new owner of a 1959 Chevy Apache and boy is she a beauty. In one day my buddy and I flew from Tampa to Birmingham at 10:30am, purchased the truck, drove it 25 miles with no rear brakes, dropped it off at my friends house, and flew back home to Tampa at 5:30. Phew... it was exhausting, but all things considered, for a truck that has driven 10 miles in 10 years, she did GREAT. Not bad for the price.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to get her back home. Does anyone have any experience with the Uhaul Auto Transports? I have a truck that can pull it no problem. "Must have a maximum outside-to-outside tire width of 79.25 and Must have a maximum wheelbase of 133 inches." Anyone know the dimensions of a short bed?? Anyone have experience driving with one of these? Uhaul's site says maximum speed to 55mph. Oh yea, need a picture. The house behind it is where is was stored for 10 years in their garage. |

Lol. If it were only that easy.
Tires are dry rotting and unbalanced. We couldn't go over 40mph. Bham to St Pete is 550 miles, a little over my comfort zone. Posted via Mobile Device |

No problem your w.b. is 115" and tire width is less then 70"
You'll have plenty of room on the trailer to center you truck for balanced weight distribution. |

@G&R's57GMC - Thanks for that info. I appreciate it!
It's looking like Memorial Day to make the journey. I already miss the truck and want to get her to be a driver so I can enjoy cruising! Posted via Mobile Device |

Wow,
great score and great story. How did you locate the truck? Ebay, C/list? Congrats! I would slap new tires on her, replace all fluids and drive her back. Make an adventure out of it!

I'm with LDO, slap a set of tires on it and roll out.

Re: New 4 Eyes Project! '59 Apache!
Thanks for all the support. I scoured the web every day. Craigslist (statewidelist.com is a great site), ebay, the HAMB, etc etc. I actually texted my friend earlier that day messing around "Dear users of Craigslist, if you could please post the perfect truck for me to purchase, I would greatly appreciate it. It'd be even better if I could get it this weekend. Thanks, Danny". 2 hours later, this truck shows up on Birmingham's Craigslist and conveniently I have a good family friend that lived 25 miles away. About 1000 things had to go right for this to happen and about 999 of them went my way. It is a story I don't think I'll ever forget.
@LDO - I think I'm actually heading to Pensacola for Memorial Day/pick up my truck. Good college friend and his wife live up there. Nice way to make a good weekend trip of getting the truck. I'm afraid of just slapping tires on it and changing fluids and then driving 550 miles. I want to go through the mechanics to make sure everything is good. I also don't want to do all that in my friends garage in Birmingham. I'm sure good 'ol 4 eyes could make it, but I don't want to wreck anything. |

@Sin7 - That is a pretty truck you have there. I'm jealous of your big back glass. Thank you so much for the information, that is EXACTLY what I needed to know. I just placed my reservation for Memorial Day week. Time to go get my baby and bring her home. Glad to hear your trip was enjoyable and uneventful!
