my kinda sorta build thread of my daily driver 1990 GMC...
to make a long story short since i lost this once already, i gave my little bro back a rusty daily driver 1970 vw that more than paid it self off and $500 for the truck, turned around and had him sell the wheels which he got $300 for. so basically i paid $200 for the truck.
now a little about the truck itself... as soon as i got i started doing stuff to it. it had a motor swap done when he got it, it had a 4.3 v6 originally and now has a tbi 350. it has all the smog crap on it but wont pass because it needs to go to a smog refferee and needs a motor. now it runs ok and drives pretty good now that its lowered. but it needs a motor due to oiling issues with the top end and now the bottom end is knocking which i will take care of with a rebuilt motor. so far i only have about $700 into the truck. before/when i first got it interior after i lowered it with a 4/6 drop and different temporary wheels and tires different mirrors and repainted the center of the grille as well as blacked out the GMC emblem Posted via Mobile Device |

then i blacked out the whole grille and bumpers, as well as sanded down and satin clear coated the crappy original taillights.

Re: my kinda sorta build thread of my dialy driver 1990 GMC...
still need to repaint the whole truck satin black so it all matches as i dont care much for the current flat black paint job. BUT, it is WAY better than the original color of the truck, which was a seafoam greenish color with that burgandy interior (vomit). who ever ordered it those two colors together needs smacked upside the head lol
two ok colors just not together Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by project 67 sub; 05-14-2012 at 01:07 AM. |

How was the truck lowered? I really like the stance and the steel wheels.

Re: my kinda sorta build thread of my daily driver 1990 GMC...
thanks. it was lowered with 2" springs, 2" spindles, and a flip kit, didnt have to notch the frame and bed cross brace above the pumpkin/diff because it was already done before me and my bro got it. as for the steel wheels, they dont even match lol. the front ones are stock 1970's 15"x7" steelies, and the back ones are some 15"x10" basset racing wheels. tire size is 295/50r15 and if i remember correctly 225/60r15. i do wish it was about an inch lower in the front but its ok for now, MIGHT go a little lower all the way around once i decide what im gonna do for a permanent set of wheels on it

Anything special done to the motor? i love the blacked out hot rod look by the way very cool to see someone break the mold for once.

Re: my kinda sorta build thread of my daily driver 1990 GMC...
technically no nothing special done to it, its just a stock rebuilt 0.30" over 010 020 casting 1975 350 block, it has the tbi heads and cam on/in it. has a high torque mini starter, and it has headers and a double roller timing chain. and also thanks, im glad you like it , i like blacked out vehicles to, and not very many of these trucks are done that way so i figured it would be different to do it with this one, that and its my first blacked out vehicle ive ever owned lol.....

Re: my kinda sorta build thread of my daily driver 1990 GMC...
pulled the bed sides to help clear the 295/50r15's with the 4/6 drop... no more rubbing
edit: they are pulled the same amount, its just the angle of the pic that makes it look one is pulled more lol |

You did a very nice job on the motor. Looks good. Looks like you painted it with caliper paint. Hows that hold up? Any discoloration?

Re: my kinda sorta build thread of my daily driver 1990 GMC...
thanks, and yes it is painted with caliper paint, i also clearcoated over that as well. it is holding up great.... its 900 degree paint versus the 500 degree engine paint, which it has underneath it, and the clear on top of it. and so far no discoloration
the next motor im gonna build for my suburban im gonna paint it the same red |
