Looking at buying a '67
I am looking at buying a '67 lwb and am curious about the differences between the 67 - 72s. I don't expect anyone to list them, but what are some good websites to reference.
Also, what are some problem areas and other things to to look at on this truck when I go out and see it? I'm a 73-87 guy, so that's why I'm kinda brain dead on these year models. Although I've always wanted one and am excited about the possibility of one sitting in my driveway (or garage)! Thanks,

71-72 are easier to swith over to disc brake if they don't have them.
They are more sought after trucks. I believe they have more and better options.

Are you looking for visual differences or mechanical? GMC or Chevy?
Personally, the 67-68 has the better styling, due to the front clip, which is really the main style difference. mechanicals are pretty much swappable among all years, including up to '87 on some items (with slight modifications here and there). Disc brakes appear in '71. Engine options in '67 were the 283, 327 and I'm sure an inline 6. '67 also had the big and small rear windows both. If you are looking for a specific area post the questions and I'm sure you'll get a better response.

Thanks for the responses! I was looking for just general differences (mechanical and body wise). It's a Chevy and not a GMC. It does have factory air and is a LWB.
I have a '75 that will somewhat act as a donor to this truck if I get it. For instance, the '67 has a 327 in it that is most likely blown so I'll put my 350 in there and probably my newly rebuilt TH350. It has no carb and alternator which will both come off of my truck and go in this one. Then, I will part out my '75. I might even swap front ends and will at least have 2 discs! We'll see.

Big Red...that sounds like a plan to me...a 75 would be a good donor truck.
Being that you are in Texas, the 67 should be fairly clean. Check the rockers and the cab corners for rot...or worse yet, rot repair. While under the cab, look at the floor boards and cab mounts. Any other rust should be easy to spot, and in your location...it'd be a good reason to walk. These things are a dime a dozen in your area...pick up any thrifty nickle, you'll see at least 5 in any given week. Other than that, there is no real "wear items" to look at that you wouldn't look at on any other 37 year old vehicle. Well....if it has the coils in the back (if you are lucky than it does) then look at the rear trailing arms real closely...some ppl have been finding them rusted and falling apart. Any chance of getting pics? |

Will add a couple of spots to look at from Andy's post. Check the inner cab roof above the windshield as if rust is showing there, it's more trouble then it's worth to fix. Another problem spot is the firewall where leaves go thru the cowl and collect in the inner cab vent boxes. This will typically show at the firewall, from under the hood look at the firewall above the heater motor and at the same area on the other side. If rust thru there, it could go well beyond and below. If no rust damage, your good to go.
In general terms, these trucks are as valuable as their body is. Drivetrains are interchangeable and cheep. Frames are cheep. Cabs, beds, front clips, trim, get pricy and very time consuming to repair. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. Huck |

Hey it is a local truck.
The dealer emblem on the tailgate says Vandergriff Chevrolet which is in Arlington. I think I saw this truck before like down in Grandbury TX. Lots a good parts there. Have fun

If this is the extent of the rust, then go for it. But this is a good chore to repair in its self.
Huck, thanks for adding to my post...I have no idea why I didn't ention that since my GMC suffers from both fire wall rot and natures sun roof over the windshield. |

It would make a pretty good parts truck since it looks like most of the sheet metal is in decent shape, even at $500. There's some decent trim pieces left. It has what appears to be a good tailgate. If you wait and spend an extra grand, as in $1500, you can get into one that is in better shape and that someone has probably been driving.

I like the 200 idea. When you get a truck for 200, you can afford to put some money into it. but i guess that these trucks are a dime a dozen here in Kansas.

Well guys, I passed on it as did one of my friends who owns a '67. It was very rough. Don't think I've ever seen that many wasp and mud dobber nests in such a small area! I guess it would be good for someone, but not me right now. Oh well. Thanks guys for all your help and advice!!! I guess back to the 73-87 board for me.
