Thumbs up Checking in to Report: Back on the Road - FINALLY!

After 7 long years of fun, agony, frustration, mental melt-downs, parts returns and head banging on the work bench I am proud to report that I have my 49 back on the road, safety inspected, tagged (all legit-like)

Took the first ride Saturday and now have 280 incident free miles - well, a leaky thermostat gasket, but it's running great and man, is it nice to finally get to drive this thing again!

A lot of you have provided more help, advice and encouragement than you will ever know - a shout out to all of you for being here and being willing to help!

Of course it's not 'done' (are they ever?) - I still have to install the front lip, door panels and healdiner, but after 7 years I'm in no hurry

If your on one of those 'long hauls' with your project hang in there - take breaks when you need to (keeps us sane) but stay the course and it'll be well worth it!

Re: Checking in to Report: Back on the Road - FINALLY!

Nice work. I know what you mean. I got mine on the road late last summer after an 11 yr build. 280 miles...I better get driving as you have more miles on yours than I do.

It looks realy good.

Re: Checking in to Report: Back on the Road - FINALLY!

Thanks for the kind words everyone I hit 300 miles today, gave her another oil change and am just loving it! Sure fun to get out and enjoy it rather than just push it around the garage, lol.

Had a buyer today while I was filling her up - too bad I'm not selling lolz.

Ogre I didn't know the power tour was rolling through - sounds like a blast - I'll look up the information on it!

Re: Checking in to Report: Back on the Road - FINALLY!

Hi Dan - I used 'Kirker Ultra Glo Urethane' in a 98 viper red. Believe it or not the black is actually Kirker Hot Rod Black - the flat black satin (urethane).

This being my first paint job I couldn't get it to lay down even and was getting a uneven finish - brighter in some areas than others...

I painted my fenders 3 times trying to get that smooth flat black and it wasn't happening, so I put down 4 coats, wet sanded with 1000 then 1500 and then applied clear. Buffed out to a beautiful gloss black, lol...go figure.

I got a set of door panels from Rod Doors that I need to get upholstered along with my kick panels and headliner and that's about it - oh, still got to put on my figerglass front lip too. We'll see how that goes - got to do some trimming on that...

Official 'unveiling' tonight for the truck at a local cruise, should have about 70 vehicles there.

Honestly it took so long because I travel a lot for work, and I got myself into a real mess with the wiring on the truck - I 'quit' several times and walked away for weeks and even months over wiring, lol.

STAY THE COURSE on yours! Awesome to bring new life into these old farm trucks

Re: Checking in to Report: Back on the Road - FINALLY!

The truck won a 'peoples choice' award lst night at the cruise in - surprised me lol, I don't even have my door panels/headliner in Humbling - I built her to drive and enjoy rather than 'compete' - I didn't know they were giving out anything lol...

I appreciate all your kind words! Loving cruising around in it, but I been eating up some ga$$$$$$$, lol...
