Re: change my 68 to 5 bolt????

Does it have the original rear end housing?

If you lay down underneath the truck and measure from the drivers backing plate to the pass side backing plate, is it 55.5" or 57" ?

Early Classic should have them, I got mine from Moser. You just want to make sure it hasn't been changed at some point in it's life. I am assuming 55.5"

67-68 and some early 69 = 55.5" using this measurement. (so you don't have to take the wheels off)
In late 69 and 70 they were in the transition year. They used what they had at the time.
71-72 = 57" housing.

The reason for this is the disk brake front end. Adding discs adds .75" track width up front so they lengthened the rear axle housing by 1.5 (.75 either side) to accomodate.

This is the first thing you want to check, then search for your axles. The easiest thing might be to find a 71+ rear end with 5 lug in it already. ? But it will change your wheel offset too due to the added length of the housing. A lot of guys like the early housings (I have one in my stepper) so you can run less backspacing. .. makes your rear wheels look .75" wider due to the additional .75 lip to the front.

That means you'll have to buy new spindles. Right?

Re: change my 68 to 5 bolt????

I did the conversion on my 68 truck, got all the parts from a 72 and some other I had to buy new.

. I think it will be cheaper to just try and find a 5 lug off a 71-72 and all the front suspension stuff. If you can try and find the drag link , tie rods , tie rod sleves , pitman arm and idler arm all still intact so you can just switch it over.

Re: change my 68 to 5 bolt????

We converted my '67 to 5 lug by using all the parts for the front suspension and rear-end from a '71 donor truck.

is this a 4x4?
somebody must have changed the front end if not. go to wreck yaerd and get your self a 73-82 front hub. they are 5 lugs and see if it fits. good luck.
