87 350 TBI camshaft options
Was woundering if anyone knows or had allready researched this. I"ve ended up having to rip my motor apart and replace a bad cam. Thought about throwing a little bit bigger cam in it but im not sure how big i can go before i start having to mess with the computer and other things. i was also planning on taking the heads in to be reworked.
Also, i went through and seen a million threads about headers.... So whats the general consensus for a decent headers? |

Re: 87 350 TBI camshaft options
As long as you don't get much over an "RV" type cam, you should be fine. Something in the 205 - 210 duration range should be about what you want.
Can't help with the headers question, haven't gotten that far yet on this project of mine. MAKE SURE YOU USE OIL MADE FOR A FLAT TAPPET CAM AT BREAK-IN AND AFTER, THE NEWER OILS DON'T HAVE ENOUGH ZINC AND PHOSPHOROUS FOR FLAT TAPPET CAMS!!! |

Exectly
I use Lucas Petroleum Break-In Oil - 30W - (1 Quart part #10630) for break in with flat tapper cam shafts. Run engine immediately between 1800 to 2800 RPM (vary engine speed) for a minimum of 20 min continuously. Run 30W for first 500 miles - change oil filter and oil to a regular 10W-40 or -30 and you should be OK with a small addition of ZDDP supplement. Too much ZDDP poisons CAT's //RF
