Spacing on axel housing plates
As many of you know I just did the drum to disc swap, but do to different ratios I have to swap out the rear axel. I went to put the rear axel on and the plates where the leaf sits does not line up. Can I torch them off and reweld them? The new rear end is a 14 bolt corporate.

I just did the same thing. I took mine to a local shop and had them air-arc the pads off. It is much cooler and won't overheat the axle tube. It cost me 30 bucks. I got it back and had to torch the shock mounts too, even though the axle had been on a 70 gmc 2wd. Both the spring and shocks are different on 4wd vs 2wd.
The Corp-14 will have way different shock mounts. You probably want to save the shock mounts off you current axle and weld them on the Corp-14. Also, the U-joint may be bigger. You can get and un-even cross u-joint that is bigger one way that the other way. with the Un-even u-joint, you won't have to cut your driveline (maybe). ON my 2wd, the park brake cables were too short, I just welded a 2 inch length of 1/2 inch dia pipe on the hangers. It looks like hell, but that was 100,000 miles ago. ------------------ Scrub 70 GMC 1,000,000 + miles 72 K-20 project, 456 Dana60 front, Corp14 rear w/locker, 265R19.5 tires 20-ply.
