Issues...

My 64 C10 has what's supposed to be a 86 305.
It has a aluminum 2bbl intake from...maybe 70s-80s
and a older Rochester 2bbl carb.

It runs alittle rough. There's no timing mark so we put a vacuum gauge on and it idles at 17-20 on vacuum gauge.
So timing is pretty close.
The intake only has 2 bolt holes, opposite from each other...which is weird. Carb has 4 bolt holes.
I'll post picks of carb. It seems like a big POS...

I've put about 100 miles on the truck. It just seems like it could run much smoother.

Then....there's the trans. Its a TH350. It shifts from 1st to 2nd to drive in 30ft. Really fast.
The vacuum is hooked to back of carb.
I've never had anything shift so fast. Its...boom..in drive.

Any opinions?

Re: Issues...

Trans wise the governor in the side of the trans may be the problem . If the donor came from something high geared ( 3:07 , 2:73 ) . It could do that if your truck has a low gear ( 4:11 , 4:56 )

Re: Issues...

My truck does seem gear-bound. Havnt had it on highway yet, but it seems its gonna scream at 65 based off how it acts at 40-50.
And I have a 235-70-15 tire.
Doubt going taller is going to cut into gear much.

Re: Issues...

Governors are an easy swap on a 350 turbos , Might try that

Re: Issues...

i would also check the modulator valve if it has ever been replaced its most likely adjustable just remove the vacuum hose and inside the port is a small screw turn it clockwise a few turns to delay the shifts
