Help me with wheels!

I am finishing up my 64 C-10 and I am stuck on a wheel decision.

I have a 2.5" drop spindle kit/disc brake with lowered springs in the front
and a 3" drop spring in the rear. ( I may add a 1" lowering block)

The wheels I want are the Boss 338 or something similar. The plan was to go 20" all the way around. I am not sure I want to swap to 5 lug. Do you know where I can get the wheels I am looking for in 6 lug?

Should I just "suck it up" and convert to 5 lug? My rear end has been changed at some point. It has a "hole" in the top part of the diff housing for a different style panhard bar. Not too sure that matters unless I do a 5 lug swap. I read the axle splines may be quirky...

Note: The truck is on jack stands and blocks in the picture. Also the motor is out. So the stance isn't accurate.

Re: Help me with wheels!

those boss wheels are reeeaaaally nice, and so is your 64! Changing to 5 lug really opens up your choices that is for certain.

Thank you! I have alot of hours in it.
Just about talked myself into swapping to 5 lug. Going to have to look at the rear end closer

Re: Help me with wheels!

I am in the process of machining, cleaning, and painting some late 70's off road wheels, I will be adding beauty rings and center caps, will chime back in with a pic when I am done.

Re: Help me with wheels!

I think american racing wheels make a similar 6 lug 6 spoke wheel. You will have to contact them to see if they will fit your 6 lug pattern.

Re: Help me with wheels!

I had those 338s on my 83 and loved them. Mine were chrome though. I'm pretty sure boss also make a six spoke one too though.

Re: Help me with wheels!

Thanks guys ! The wheels I have now are ok. But I would have to trim the fender flange As the offset is a little off. I don't wanna trim anything. Plus I am ready for a new look:-)

Talking Re: Help me with wheels!

I have decided to buy the Boss wheels. I plan to go 20x8 front and 20x10 rear.
I have uncut wheel flanges in the rear. I am thinking 4.5" backspace front and 5.5" backspace rear.
Tires: 275 rear? Anyone know what will fit ?
Front: 255?
Please let me know if you have a proven tire size and wheel backspace.

I would rather not reinvent the wheel ! Lol

Re: Help me with wheels!

Be careful with these 338's. I call them 666's. There is more than meets the eye with these wheels. Do not plan on them just "BOLTING ON".

There is a thread about these wheels on this forum.

Re: Help me with wheels!

Agreed on you had better research prior to buying. They can be tricky. Do a search on this forum, lots on info. These wheels will be on my 66 soon...

Re: Help me with wheels!

Yikes!! Boss look to be a pain...

Here's what I learned from a search and a lot of reading....

Boss: Poor design and some mods needed to make them work.

Coy wheels: bolt up

Cons of both Coy and Boss: Added material to the rear of the hub to change backspacing. This means that the Wheel lip is not nearly as deep as I like.

I am currently looking at Showwheels . They seem to bolt up and have a deeper wheel lip.

I did a search and didn't see many threads regarding Showwheels. the specs on their website seem to indicate a deeper lip with roughly the same look?
Can anyone confirm this?

Re: Help me with wheels!

I have 18" Coys and they work great. I switched from 8 lug to 5 for varoius reasons but a big part was better wheel choice than converting to 6 lug.

Re: Help me with wheels!

I am converting to 5 lug and have a CPP front disc conversion and drop spindles.

Would be nice to know if someone else is already running the Showwheels on a 64-66 C-10.

Anyone know?

One of your original questions was concerning the rear end & I haven't seen any updated info posted.... If there's a 'boss' on the top right hand side of the housing for a stud, the housing is most likely swapped from a 66 or later truck. That being said, you need to determine if the housing is the shorter (pre-71) or longer (mid 70-72) unit. Your backspacing needs will depend on which housing for best fit.
