My new 69 chevy truck

Well the guy I bought this truck from a guy who just listed it as a 69 chevy truck. I can not read the fender emblem because of the picture locations. The aux tanks seem a little odd. I'm use to seeing the 4X4's with the doors for filling the tanks. I would appreciate any input you experts can give me on the truck. I bought it on E-bay this morning. I have to drive it 3000 mile but I'm pretty sure it will be worth it. You've got to love a truck this old with no cancer.

The guy lives in the Salem area. You probably know this but it is about 1 1/2 hours south of Portland. He is kicking himself now because I got it cheap and he realizes he should have ask for more.

The emblems look to be "custom camper" and it looks like there is a 20 next to it so its a 3/4 ton

It looks really nice and straight. Just change the hubcaps when you get it, they arent correct :p

I would say you probably did pretty good for that price just as long as it is as rust free as they say it is and if it is original paint.

I love that color

Thanks for the reply Gee_Emm. I was thinking it was a custom camper but I didn't want to have the seller figure out that he should have a higher buy it now price. It's been a long wait for me to join the 67-72 club. I think this is a good start.

We have board members in Salem, Jose and Primered Thunder. Jose is a great guy to do business with. When are you picking it up? Which direction are you taking back to MD? Want to transport some parts and help pay for gas?

BTW...truck looks great. My MIL lives in Salem so I get down there pretty frequently.

I'm flying into Portland on the 31st of May at 2:00 AM. I'll be waiting around until the morning and meet up with the owner. When I leave Portland I'll be heading East on 84. I think I'll be dropping down to Denver and then taking 70 all the way to Maryland. I'm not sure what rear gear ratio this truck has so I'm not sure if I'll be speed limited due to engine rpm. It would be nice to be able to run at least the speed limit for this long of a trip. I'm open to helping transport some items provided it doesn't put me way off the path I'm following.

It does look sweet, however, not all the paint is original.

look at the bottom of the aux fuel tank hanging down...it should not be white. The other one on the drivers side is the same way.
Looking at the inside of the bed and the cab floor (what little is exposed) it still looks like it was a rust free/near rust free truck.
You have a link to the auction?
If you pass through Ohio, you can swing by here and get a free meal if you like. (in Columbus right off of I-70)
Good news...those rims look to be 16 inch..not 16.5s. I may be wrong, but if I'm right, then your next set of tires will be about 100 bucks cheaper.

Thanks for the response Longhornmail. I appreciate the offer we'll see how things pan out and I'll get back to you. The link to the auction is
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2415091917

The good thing about this truck is I just wanted a fairly clean truck to start with. I've bought cancer victims before and would really appreciate having one without the deep deterioration that I'm use to. The 79 in my signature is a good example. The frame was bad enough that I ended up scaping that truck. To bad others are not as critical about what they sell as I am. Give the auction a look. The mileage is real high but the mechanical side of these truck do not worry me. The a/c will take a little work to get back together but at least it is an a/c cab. Talk to you later.

It looks like original paint to me, the green part at least maybe the PO painted the tanks that way. But then again looking at the bottom white it looks too white for 198,000 miles. The mouldings look pretty straight.

Do you plan on keeping the truck with the stock look. Please say yes :p

Another thing I just noticed is that the outer grille is a repro and why does the truck have the upper moulding? Was that part of an option package or a seperate option or what?

Looks like a good straight truck, good find, and heck of a trooper for driving cross country for it. That would be fun

i didn't see any upper molding on the grill. i don't think it's a repop. it looks almost identical to my 70 with out the silver paint on the plastic part of the grill. i think you got a pretty good deal on that truck. looks good

I'm buying this truck to drive daily and I purposely bought it this way so I didn't have to do a bunch of body work and new paint. I don't know if I'll go down the path of restore to exactly original but I'm good with it the way it currently looks. I'll have to get the underside all treated properly to prevent the rust from taking it away from me. What is the deal with the aux tank fillers? I've noticed them like this on a couple of other pictures but most are lower along the bedside with a door. So Gee_Emm how do you know the outer grill is reproduction? I'm not questioning your knowledge I'm just trying to learn myself to pick stuff like that out.

Hey dtlilly,
It was only about three weeks ago that I drove all the way down to Melber, KY to look at a truck. That's about 16 hours one way. I turned around and drove back home without it. It just wasn't in the condition described. I hope that doesn't happen on this deal. The guy involved with this 69 has sold several vehicles on E-bay with no negative responses so I feel pretty good about it.

I think the aux fuel tanks and fillers were a dealer installed option. I don't think they were done the same nationwide.

It has the original shape hubcaps on the rear,( I thought the bowties on the hubs were blue back then but don't know for sure) but later model hubcaps on the fronts and spares- No big deal just pointing it out.

Looks like a nice solid ready to drive anywhere truck. Enjoy it and have a great trip!

The spare tank on that truck is a factory auxillery tank. That was how they were done right out of the factory. Great looking truck by the way!! WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Nice truck!!!

Regarding the aux fuel tanks. Do you fill them from inside the wheel wells? I recently purchased a 4X4, 3/4 ton with aux tanks. There is a switch on the floor next to the drivers seat allowing to switch between the three tanks. I'm pretty sure this is factory as my options sheet mention aux tanks.
