Old school sounds - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I got my first car in the late 70's. If you are of that era, you'll remember that cassette tapes, and the analog sound, were THE standard.

Well, today I outfitted my truck with an old school Kenwood cassette deck, along with some brand new Kenwood three-way speakers...

Oh, wow...analog sounds so much different than digital. I popped in a cassette of The Cars, Candy-O album...it was like I traveled back in time...really, I mean, it was all too surreal.

I found myself with a great big grin on my face...just sat there and soaked it all in.

Anyway, just wanted to share...it was a good day...a really good day!

I still have an 8-track tape player in my square. I really get my neighborhood going when I crank up Iron Butterfly or Cream.

Makes me chuckle.... a couple days ago, me and my grandson was tinkering cleaning out a closet. He had a record in his hands and said " Hey Papaw, what's this"? It had totally slipped my mind that the boy had never seen a record. The sad part was, I told him what it was and was gonna show him how it worked, but I also forgot...I don't have a record player! P.S. ... what was the record? , Inadagaddadavita... YEA, you young folks will have to Google that one !! HAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm 44 and know that song. My Dad had that album, one whole side of a 78 was that song. Loved to play that on my parents old furniture style record player.

I might have to see if he still has that stuff. He use to have an old under dash 8 track player. Might have to find it and some of their old Elvis tapes. Makes me smile to bring back those memories from my childhood.

My 1st truck had an 8 track, but cassettes were getting big and I couldn't afford a new radio so I bought one of those cassette to 8 track adapters, lol those were good times...........

Man I thought I was the only "Old Timer" on here, You guys are making me laugh. thinking of my old 8 track days.

My POS 8 track use to eat everything, The only tape that survived was my BTO "NOT FRAGILE" tape. Good Tunes......

Nothin like a click clack right in the middle of a song...if your old enough to know what I mean.
I get that smile a lot...I converted some albums to mp3s.. Get the best of both worlds..Clapton slowhand & old stones on vinyl thru a bose sounds great.

78 Big10 454 - I was just getting ready to ask if anyone had one of those. I always wondered how they sound while you were going down the road...
I have some real carbon 78's that I play on a really old wooden Magnavox... you know, the furniture stereos that are even bigger than the furniture TV. Old tube electronics, the radio with that glowing liquid filled glass straw... Sounds just like the stuff you hear in really old movies when I put the carbons on.

Black Chevy, the 45 rpm record player worked pretty good. It had cushioned underdash mounts that prevented the record from skipping every time you hit a bump in the road.

I hear ya about those carbon 78's. I have an old Magnavox unit like yours from 1947. Nothing sounds better on it than Nat King Cole singing "Mona Lisa."

Yea, you know yer getting old when instead of replacing the radio, you have a mp3 player adapter stuck into a cassette adapter, stuck into an 8 Track adapter.....Yer radio sticks clean out to the seat... And best yet, you also have an FM converter, with an Audiovox signal booster hooked into that!! But it's not complete until you are pumping it all thru your Gen-U-whine Surface Mounted 6X4 Kraco truck speakers... HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

And when you were not in the mood for refreshing tunes, you could jump on your Brand New 23 channel Pierce-Simpson CB !!
