I have the opportunity to buy a buddy's 86 K5 and want to use a 96 700r4 from a 2wd truck in place of his 86 th350.using the 86 transfer case (4X4). I know it CAN be done. but what else do I need? computer maybe?

If it's a '96, it's not a 700R4, it's a 4L60E. You'll definitely need a computer to run it. If you can find a '92 and earlier donor, those are the last of the 700R4's, no need for a computer with those.
