trottle questions

Not sure if I asked this one or not I have a 66 with a 350 I dont seem to be getting enough acceleration its kind of a slug. I have the typical trottle bar with threads on the end at the carb a 600 avenger that you can adj a bit but no matter which I go I still get nothing. Any thoughts and how to's? should I get a trottle cable if so how will that work on my truck Thanks

Re: trottle questions

hmmm, maybe make a note of how far the throttle turns via pressing the gas pedal, disconnect it, and see if it will turn further. Maybe post up some pictures as well. Check your timing, if it is over advanced it will run, but will run very poorly when you start giving it some gas out on the road. Pinched fuel line, plugged fuel filter. Fuel pump going...
Some food for thought for you! Cheers! Good Luck!

Re: trottle questions

If someone has advanced the timing, they would have found the RPM's going up, and turned down the idle adjustment, so if it is the timing, and you retard it back to where it should be, the idle adjustment will need to be reset as well

Re: trottle questions

Thanks for the suggestions, I have a new fuel pump and a new fuel filter, and I believe the the timing is correct. I power brake it and is does not fail going forward meaning no stalling. When I push the gas pedal it just seems that the pedal does not have much travel even before the carpeting I was having this issue. I drove it yesterday and it runs nice however I push the gas all the way down nothing Thanks

Re: trottle questions

have some one push the gas pedal all the way down and try and move the throttle on th outside and see if it goes farther. it could be throttle adjustment. what tranny are you running? if a 350 auto do you have the vacume on the back of tranny hooked up or the modulator could be bad

Re: trottle questions

did you just change over from a 6 cyl. I think that you need a longer bellcrank where it comes out of the firewall. you may not be getting enough travel to open the throttle fully

Re: trottle questions

First lets fix the throttle, disconnect the throttle linkage rod and kick down linkage, hold the carb lever all the way open and open the pedal linkage and compare, it not match you`ll need the longer linkage from a v-8 or change to cable assembly either aftermarket or off of a donor truck, when that is straight you can adjust the kick down linkage, is it a th350 or 7004r....?

I second the motion, rule out (or correct) the throttle linkage, then move on to other possible problems.
