HELP! Anyone ever installed a TKO-500? ? ? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I had the tranny in place, but it's forward top cover is rubbing the seam between the floor and firewall. Can I grind the seam down (it sticks out abour 1/2 an inch) or should I try pounding it?

Whatever your fabrication skills are... go for it. If you grind the seam... you'll prolly have to tack weld it for strength.

I've seen/heard of that lip needing to be trimmed. Rather than snip the whole thing off and risk splitting the seam - might not be a bad idea to just make a perpendicular snip in the seam about every 5 inches or so and just hammer the lip over flat. That way, creat clearance and don't risk splitting the seam. One way to skin the cat only, many more exist probably. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I massaged the lip down nice and evenly with a hammer. Got the tranny all bolted up then snugged up the mounts (Had to undo the motor mounts and jacked the front of the engine to line the tranny). Now I've got about 3/8 to 1/2 inch clearance.

Now I need to shorten my shaft about 3" and I'll be good to go!
