Which tank & driveline? LS powered '57

I'm figuring out which parts I'll need and have stalled out on the gas tank and the driveshaft.
I've considered using a stock replacement '57 gas tank and an external pump & filter setup. It should work just fine, but I don't know if I can do better for the money I'd spend. I figure I'll be $500 into the fuel system by the time I'm done, maybe more. $150 + shipping for tank, $2xx for pump, $80 for regulator For $500, can I do better? Under bed tank, in-tank pump, etc?

What are people using for a driveshaft? I have the old shaft that ran from the SM420 to the 10-bolt. Just have a driveline shop cut it down & mate it to the 4L80E?

Radiators... Anything from an OEM application that people have found? OEM parts I can buy wholesale. Custom is $$$.
Thanks for any help!

I went with a Walbro 255 LPH external pump=$100-$120 on Ebay, 03 Corvette filter/regulator around $40.00 local auto parts store. I also put a pre-filter on it that I got for $10 to keep the pump clean. You should be able to use your original tank.

In tank pump is the way to go. I believe Chevy van or Blazer with FI tank will fit. do a search on this forum lots of info on this.

I'm using a tank from NoLimit.net

I'm using a 2000 Camero Rad & Fan in my '57. Heres some pic's I took at a car show for my inspiration.

I used an internal pump, I heard that an external buzzes pretty loudly? Not sure. Corvette filter/reg. Used a camaro tank from a 97? I think?

OK, I'll see if I can get my hands on a Blazer tank.
If I use the original tank, though, I should be fine as long as I get an LS with no return system?

tanksinc has everything you need and you can put it in any tank. you can even run return or returnless.

I suggest return style, since you will always have cool fuel at the rail and the possibility of vapor lock is nill.

Re: Which tank & driveline? LS powered '57

i have the same tank as g&r from no limit, except i have an internal pump.
i do not recommend this set up, as i have had to drop my tank to service the pump 4 times in 10,000 miles.
once the pump went bad and 3 times for failure of the fuel line from pump to tank.
i had written no limit many times for problems with this tank, he did replace the pump long after i bought one.
but i have never had a explanation for the hose failures. the first hose failure was at zero miles.
the tank is an excellent tank, i would use an external pump if i had to do it again.

i used my stock drive shaft, but had to have it cut down to fit the 700r4 trans
not sure how long your trans is, if it is the same as a 350 you can use the by changing the front yolk and u-joints
the new u-joint have different sizes to fit the shaft and the yolk/rearend.

i bought a desert cooler stock replacement from brothers, it was drop shipped from us radiator
it has an extra core and trans cooler in it. looks good, works great.
also have a spal fan and shroud

Re: Which tank & driveline? LS powered '57

Looking at Ebay, I'm finding a 2002 Camaro LS-1 gas tank & pump for $130 shipped. "buy it now" is my new friend. 16.8 gallons, made of plastic, has an OEM pump designed for an LS engine. Sweet. Will add C-5 filter & cap off or use the return line as needed. Will figure out filler location when I get it under the truck. Have referenced multiple threads claiming this tank will fit, probably behind axle and under the bed.

Radiator wise, a used 2002 Camaro unit is, again, on Ebay for $100 shipped. Fans & shroud, another $100. Can't beat that. Credit card coming back out soon, I think... Apparently the lower mount takes a little work but the upper mount is caveman-easy. Hell, sounds good to me. I know a couple of sheet metal / fabricator guys in the area for help if needed.

I have a 2 piece drive shaft w/ carrier bearing. The shaft was mated to a 10-spline SM420. It sounds like I'm better off finding a new shaft from somewhere, since I'd need a new yoke put on & a section cut out.
Any good resources on different shaft input styles & lengths?

Anybody know where you can get an air cleaner like the one on the blue showtruck in G&R's57GMC post?

Street and Performance, Mena, Arkansas has that filter, and a lot of other conversion parts, as well as a lot of knowledge about LS conversions. Their stuff is pricey!

I have a LSX 57 project also, I just installed a stock gm fuel pump module w/ an upgraded pump from a web based company called "ONLY FUEL PUMPS" $135.00, used the "VETTE WORKS" style rings to mount it into a new 1969 18 gal. mustang tank ($120.00), the tank mounts perfectly between the frame rails after moving the rear crossmember . hope this helps.

Checked with Street and Performance on the air cleaner and they don't have a direct fit for my application. It's not cheap

Sorry, I assumed you were using a LS1 type engine that was pictured. S&P makes that air cleaner with the Mass Air Flow sensor built in (you can see the sensor/wires at the back of the filter where it bolts on to the throttle plate). What engine do you plan to use?
