Unhappy 66 chevy truck.

I have been workin on my truck for a while and me and my uncle tested the coil inside my HEI distributor and it was bad . so i went down and bought a new one and i still have no spark. it does not fire at all. and i have no clue what else it could be everything is all new. i am very confused why there is no spark.

Re: 66 chevy truck.

Did you test the power to the "+" wire at the coil? I see you changed the coil, did you change the module inside the cap?

Good luck...JC62...

Re: 66 chevy truck.

it is relatively common for the rotor to wear and burn thru under the center contact-and it will ground out to the shaft. Look at the center of the rotor to see if it looks burnt. You may or maynot actually see a crack, but replacing it is an easy test.

Re: 66 chevy truck.

Would be unlikely that it would be burnt in only a month of use, maybe I missed you mentioning you had already replaced it. Sorry.

Re: 66 chevy truck.

Did you replace or check the pickup coil. It turns with the vacuum advance the wires in it can break inside the insulation causeing intermittant failure. Hook an ohm meter or continuity tester to the wires going to it after you unplug them from the module. Move the wires around. You should have continuity between the terms.

Re: 66 chevy truck.

I chenged the coil inside the HEI distributor and i dont have points. i jsut replaced the module and i still have nothing ant the rotor is brand new. but i took out the distributor and marked it so i didnt forget wich way it goes and i took it all aprat and cleaned it and it fired but was just popping and making weird noises like it is out time. .i am just going to put a new distributor in it. instead of messing with it all. im int he process of sanding and painting and dont wanna mess with motor stuff til later and im puttin a new engine in it anyways. this motor is just temporary
