Adjusting Odometer Help.....

So I finally found out that my speedo is bad and thats why it jumps all over...So I got a few from pull a part and it works like a charm!! Now the problem is this...Its about 30k miles lower then whats on the truck.....How can i fix that?

I put a speedo cable into my 18v dewalt and that works but its slow as crap!!! Is there a fast way to match it to my old speedo?

Your truck odometer is long past exempt status. Do you just want it to be where it was? (sorry I dont know how to change it but I know it can be)

I had seen somewhere that you can get to the point where you just rotate each wheel till its where you want it.

My title says the odo is past it's physical limits which means it doesn't matter what it says. You can change it all day long. I plan to start the clock over if I ever get a new motor.

Well it has 137k on the truck...New speedo has 104k New engine has around 75k so i am just trying to keep it as true mileage on the truck or 70k would be nice as well

wow i feel like an idiot...no just 6 so right now it read 13796 lol and the new one reads 10437...wow thats crazy i didnt even realize that lol

So your truck either has 113,796 mi or maybe 713,796 mi on it! hahaha. Gotta love those old speedo's. My dad had a new 1973 c10 when they first came out. The thing was rusted out and in the junk yard before it even rolled 100k. My 1978 shows 86,xxx but im pretty sure its 286,xxx or 386,xxx...

Well the guy i bought it from kept a log of it since 68k miles on it which is when he dropped the new engine in...So im pretty sure just 113 lol

The PO of my truck got the motor rebuilt but never touched the milage on, I had a peice of paper saying how many miles were on it when it got rebuilt, but dam if I know where I put it

Since you have an old one to play with, play with it. Basics are you pop some keepers off the backside and you can roll the numbers to where you want. The trick is getting the wheels all lined up again straight and getting the keeper(s) put back correctly to keep them straight.
It's not overly difficult to do but some frown upon others trying to teach how. It is a gray area, but as mentioned if your title already says "EXEMPT" or "EXCEEDED MECHANICAL LIMITS", then what's the worry in it? When I'd drop a new bullet in I'd always set the odometer back to all zeros.

FEDERAL ODOMETER LAW Motor Vehicle Cost Information Act, 49 U.S.C. Section 32704

1. (It shall be unlawful for a person) "with intent to defraud, operate a motor vehicle on a street, road, or highway if the person knows that the odometer of the vehicle is disconnected or not operating; or

2. The owner of the vehicle or agent of the owner shall attach a written notice to the left door frame of the vehicle specifying the mileage before the service, repair, or replacement and the date of the service, repair, or replacement.

3. A person transferring ownership of a motor vehicle shall give the transferree the following written disclosure

A) Disclosure of the cumulative mileage registered on the odometer,

B) Disclosure that the actual mileage is unknown if the transferror knows that the odometer reading is different from different from the number of miles the vehicle has actually traveled.

(b) Mileage Statement Requirement for Licensing. - (1) A motor vehicle the ownership of which is transferred may not be licensed for use in a State unless the transferee, in submitting an application to a State for the title on which the license will be issued, includes with the application the transferor's title and, if that title contains the space referred to in paragraph (3)(A)(iii) of this subsection, a statement, signed and dated by the transferor, of the mileage disclosure required under subsection (a) of this section.

Thanks for the info..I got the data on mine..So i can do the same...Also im trying to find the clip...Is it different for a 78 model then 80s
