3/4 ton axles in my 1/2 ton
So I'm thinking of upgrading my axles in my truck as I have 10 bolt axles with 2.73 gears I use my truck on a reg basis and soon putting a cabover camper in it and prob towing a boat with it found a pair of 78 3/4 ton axles with 4.10s on Craigslist $300 for the pair with springs and tires still attached not crazy about the 4.10s but sounds like a good deal to me would yall go for it

Do it. My 77 1/2 short bed has 3/4 tons. Dana 60 up front and a corporate 14 bolt in back. just make sure everything is solid on them pinion an gear wise as well as the straps and bolts on the rear yolk if it's the corporate 14 bolt.

I'm going to rebuild them with all new bearings and such before install if I buy them I have all proper tools to do it, I have rebuilt diffs at school so I think I can tackle this

if your truck is newer then 81 youll have to move the spring perches on the rear end out an inch on each side just went throught this myself last fall

The time when you need to move the spring perches is if the rear different is out of a 1 ton. The 3/4 ton front diff is the same as a halftone but with larger spindles and brakes. And of course eight bolt. The rear springs maybe longer than your halfton. So you may need to move the rear shackle mount back.

Those 78 axles will bolt directly in place of your 86. You will need new rear ubolts and the 3/4 ton top ubolt plates. You don't need to move spring pads on 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton only on 1 ton axles do you need to move spring pads.
You can run a conversion joint on the factory 86 driveline so you won't need driveline work. |
