Compressor and air tool questions
Well today I was looking for something to cut the middle out of a couple 3/4 ton hubcaps ( I loaned my saber saw to one of my sons I may never see it again lol) and I stumbled upon these two boxes, and a couple of extra air tools. I had totally forgotten I even had them.
One set I got from the neighbor. I bought a couple of trucks, a bunch of tools and a large compressor from him. The compressor is sitting in a corner for now. I want to build an outside shed for it before I use it. The other set and extras I bought from my brother. I also bought a small compressor from him. That one I use around the shop now to clean up messes and to fill tires ... that's all lol. Ive never had a reason to use air tools, but heck since I have them I may as well figure em out, right? All of em say oil daily, and there is an arrow that points to the air fitting opening. Do you just put it in there? If so how much, and what kind? If not, where? I still don't want to hook up my large compressor to use the tools if I don't have to. Here are pics of the tools, and the compressor specs. Can I just use the smaller compressor for now? BTW, I still don't have anything to cut the middle out of my hubcaps ![]() Hmm, looks like the specs for the smaller compressor are hard to read ... 8.6 @ 40 psi 6.4 @ 90 psi

Re: Compressor and air tool questions
if you are going to put in a compressor shed you can get an inline oiler. But of course then you cant use it for painting....
I just pour it in the hole. Im a slob and make a mess but i figure you cant have to much. Most of the stuff you have will run on a small compressor. The cutoff tool uses a lot of air though. |

Re: Compressor and air tool questions
Cool toys Mark...I'll be right up to play in your shop!
I find it easiest to add a couple drops of oil to a tool each day before it’s first use. Air tool oil can be had at any major home center. And remember that air tool oil and compressor oil are not the same thing. For the compressor’s oil, I prefer a season appropriate synthetic. As for keeping your compressor outside, moisture will be your worst enemy. Having an easy to get at drain inside the building is the easiest (don’t forget water flows down hill) plus drain the bottom of the tank regularly. For safety sake, it’s easiest to have a power cutoff switch right next to your shop light switches so the compressor can’t kick in when you aren’t around…broken hoses can happen. You can also just unplug the hose at the compressor when not in use. Congrats on re-finding all the neat stuff! Now go shop for a bead cabinet. ![]()

Re: Compressor and air tool questions
I have the same Craftsman set (pic 2). I use 3 to 4 drops in them every time before use. Any more and they start leaking oil back out the exhast ports. The small compressor will drive them no problem. There design to run on low scfm. I run them at around 90psi on the tank gauge. It gives me around 75-80psi at tool.

Re: Compressor and air tool questions
I seem to remember there being a few bottles of oil that I got with the big one. Ill have to check and see what kind it was. When I had the shop wired I had one for the compressor done on its own circuit and will just shut the power off on the breaker when not in use. The outside storage will be insulated and vented with easy access to drain.
Id like to have a bead cabinet, but my shop is very small so fitting in all the extra stuff is gonna be tight. Plus the budget is just laughing at me right now =) Thanks for all the info guys ... and gal =)
