Had Truck for 4 days, already won't start

Bought the 70 Chevy Shortbed Stepside on Friday afternoon, went today to drive it to court and...nothing. No clicks or anything. Simply silence. Had to take my daily driver.

After court (as a lawyer, not a defendant) I went back to try to jump it off. Still silence.

I guess my next course of action is to try to wire brush the mess out of it and tighten it back on the battery. May try charging the battery as well.

THe only other thing I know to try is to check the connection to the starter.

Any other thoughts? I know it could probably be a million things, but I'm looking for the most obvious.

Man that's a sad story. Your right . Start with cleaning all contact's. Hope the battery doesent have a dead cell. That would mean the person that sold you the truck new it was bad when he sold it to you. Good luck and happy hunting.

I can't imagine why your 42 year old truck won't start and run as new, i would check the warranty.

Do you have lights or anything? If not there is a small wire going from the battery + to a little junction block on the passenger side inner fender. That provides power to the truck...check that too.

If it is an automatic, jiggle the shift lever a bit. Sometimes the lock out switch on the column is misadjusted and it won't start.

Re: Had Truck for 4 days, already won't start

Thank you for the replies. It is an automatic and no lights or anything will come on. I can only assume that it is something with either the battery or with a connection somewhere. I know the truck is 42 years old, but it has worked fine with me for the last three and a half days just fine. Maybe I am somewhat naïve in what I was expecting.

I don't think there is any reason to be a ass. He's just looking for a little help.

Start with conections. Then check batt. Then check the power block next to batt to make sure its not rotten.

You are a genius. The small yellow cable was corroded and needed to be replaced. Thanks for the info!

Not trying to, just a poor attempt at humor.
