power steering box hitting the frame on 64 C10
Took a half day vacation today and came home to work on the truck. I stuck the steering column in and cut the end of it off. I bought the power steering conversion kit from CPP. I mounted the new plate onto the frame and then mounted the steering box to it from a donor 72 C10. Everything lines up good except the side of the steering box is hitting the frame and not mating up to the plate all the way, about an 1/8 inch gap in the front. Anyone else had problems with the box hitting the frame??? thinking maybe a thick washer will do the trick??

What's the total thickness of the plate and the spacer? It needs to be a minimum of 9/16"

Re: power steering box hitting the frame on 64 C10
The box should lay flat against the bracket. The 2 brackets that sandwich the frame a about 3/4" total thickness. Sometimes the casting marriage line on the box is thick, double check that and also make sure there aren't any bumps on the frame that are causing the box to push away from the bracket. Here is an install story on the CPP kit, in case that will help out: http://www.classicperform.com/tech_a...tOldSchool.htm

Re: power steering box hitting the frame on 64 C10
ok I pulled the box and plate back off. the plate and spacers measure less than a 1/2 inch. I had a small casting line on the box and I ground it flat and checked the box with the plate laying on top with a straaight edge and it still doesnt clear. Anyone see a problem using a flat washer between the plate and box to get the box to clear the frame??

Re: power steering box hitting the frame on 64 C10
Make sure that all 4 washers are very close to the same thickness, as washers do vary.

Re: power steering box hitting the frame on 64 C10
I got the box mounted and everything looks good. I went to hook up the pitman arm and it seems to not fit right onto the steering center cross link, or what ever you call it. The kit I bought came with the new pitman arm so do I need to use the origional steering cross link or use the one off the 72 C10 ????
