Here's a strange one on eBay.

I'm left scratching my head. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chev-...c6679a03#v4-42

Re: Here's a strange one on eBay.

Maybe because they're right hand drive? Does that make them worth more in South Africa possibly?

Re: Here's a strange one on eBay.

My guess is its a scammer that found some car show pics and decided to post them, otherwise they would be all shown together and in more detail.

Might be right. I think I might ask for more detail and see what happens.

Did it thru ebays message system so personal email is not displayed. I asked for more photos and the names of the restorers.

pI'd say scam for sure. The trucks don't match from one photo to another on what is supposed to be the same truck.

Re: Here's a strange one on eBay.

I don't think its supposed to be the same truck as this ad was for 5 trucks...why would they sell them together though? The brown 55 is the same in two of the pics. I say SCAM!

Re: Here's a strange one on eBay.

That listing doesn't pass the smell test.

"1935 Chevrolet Other Pick Ups?"

What in the world is that supposed to mean?

Incoherent headline, no details, pics don't match... The guy probably has a good deal on a bridge in Brooklyn too.

Come on Gents, it's only 190 huge ones and half way around the world. Someone post a bid and let's find out if it's a scam. I'd do it, but I'm a few dollars short...haha

Here is his response:

"Restoration work was done by my brother in law and myself, I will take pictures of all the interiors and engines and anywhere else you want tomorrow as it is now evening here, can i dropbox you the images or email them as i think there will be a number of them and i cant upload more as this is a free add and allows 4 fotos, or you can mail me at clint@ipcctv.co.za with the details for your address."

Think I will set up a gmail account and see what he sends.

His email address is this company http://www.ipcctv.co.za/ipcctv/Home.html

Might be legit...

Re: Here's a strange one on eBay.

Its only $38K per truck, honestly not a bad price if all of the work is done and done well. How rare are right hand drive survivors of this era? Africans generally are collectors of things American as I have several friends from Nigeria and they buy things to send back home everyday. If this is legit, I would LOVE to have these trucks...but I am about $189,000 short...I wonder if he would take 190,000 Naira instead of dollars, I mean its still African currency!

Yup. There's no reverse phone directory in South Africa, but simply googling the phone number from his company's website gives a bunch of hits for a bunch of different companies. None of which appear to be anywhere close to each other. May be legit but I doubt he's going to find anyone to part with 190K without a bunch more info.

He posted a link to more photos but I cannot get it to work, just get an error message from ebay, maybe someone else can try and see if it works?

Link from eBay worked for me when I copied it into a browser. If this is indeed legit they are pretty sweet trucks

Re: Here's a strange one on eBay.

He sent it to me: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6wlaq1ysz...KU0oM9qdZB?lst
All of the pics except the AD appear to be in the same shop. All look like older restorations that have been driven. In some of the pics there is rust starting to come thru the paint. The drive trains look like the bodys were removed but chassis stuff not completely taken off or apart, not necessary bad. The barn find is really cool, also the right had drive trucks.

If it is a scam they guy(s) are going to a lot of work to make it look legit and have access to someones collection to take detailed photos (or found them online). The guy wants cash in hand, so I assume that means you would also be looking at the trucks and titles when you deliver the cash. I would also get an independent expert on titles to join be to make sure the titles are legit and trucks not missing from someones garage.

I can't comment on the prices, not familar with what things go for in South Africa. I feel and hope this is legit.

lol...well...said in innocent jest, I'm sure. Perception and reality are oft far apart. The truck didn't take 7+ years cause I could afford to pay someone to install/do the best of everything for me I paid 3k for my truck in 2001. Along the way I did without a lot of things that would have been 'nice to have' - a firebird clip in lieu of a mustang II IFS, leaf springs instead of bags, a used 10 bolt instead of a 4 link rear with a posi 9". The truck is simply the best I could manage with my limited budget and skills... 1st vehicle I have ever painted - not becuase I wanted to spray in my 2 car garage, but because I couldn't afford 7K for someone else to do it.

The economy (government) claimed my job a while back - Were it not for my military retirement I would have already sold my truck to pay my bills. On the bright side - being unemployed gave me the time to finish it.

Re: Here's a strange one on eBay.

I'm not sure what 190,000 of the currency in the sellers country actually equals in US dollars so that may be what is causing us to think it is a scam along with a rather poorly written add but then I got my sailboat for a bargain basement bid on Ebay because of a poorly written add and terrible cell phone photos.

I can't find fault with building a truck one step at a time while using low cost items B Hix. that is the way I've always had to do it an the way I'm doing it this time around. My truck will have some nice stuff on it when it's done but most things that cost anything get paid for with my share of the tax return each year. That seems to be the only way I can rathole any money for my projects.

Re: Here's a strange one on eBay.

It says that but 190,000 South African Zar equal 22,440 US and that amount woudn't be out of line for those three trucks at all.
