wiper motor /washer question
Trying to convert my single speed wiper to the two speed w/washer. All of my research shows that 63-72 are interchangeable. The question is what are the difference in the 60-62 motors that wont allow them to interchange with a 63? They use the same switches, transmission arms, wiper heads/arms, so why wouldn't they fit a 63? Any help would be great. I have the switch, bottle, bracket and nozzles (already were on truck, but none of the other stuff was), so im looking for the motor/washer assembly. Have found a unit on a 62, but I dont know that it'll work.

Re: wiper motor /washer question
60-62's mounting is different
And the motor is situated differntly(90 degrees). everything outside the cab is located in the same spot,( hence the common rods and linkage, everything behind the cowl is different. i'm working on converting my 61 cab to a 63,not too difficult, but the wiper motor mount is one I'm considering cutting out to swap. mainly because of avialibility of the the later motor(and the more likelyhood of finding a 2 speed). Trent

Re: wiper motor /washer question
Newport Engineering has pictures of the two different mounting styles, but I don't remember which is which. On my 1960 the wiper motor lays flat against the firewall:

Re: wiper motor /washer question
The '60 and '61 mount as shown in the first pic in Mark's post above. Then '62-'66 uses the mount shown in the second pic.

Re: wiper motor /washer question
Thanks for all the help guys. I have an extra 1 speed motor from a 61 to find a home for and will have a single speed from the 63 once I get the 2 speed motor/washer installed. I didnt have time to get by the 61 yesterday...I was going to take some pics since the cab is gutted, but Markeb01 beat me to it. Thanks again

Re: wiper motor /washer question
The 61-62 shop manual supplement has some details as to the differences. I have a 62 that I am working on installing a washer system. With respect to the washer system it looks like 60-61 are the same, 62-63 are A little different and 64 up interchange. I notice that when I look up the washer at various part suppliers, they usually list 64 and up.

Re: wiper motor /washer question
Yeah Ive noticed that with about half of the ones I looked at. And 1/2 of the show 63-72. Makes it harder to want to jump on a unit when you dont know for sure that it'll work.

Re: wiper motor /washer question
Curious to know if a guy could adapt one of the newer delayed wiper systems into a 60's truck? Would love to have one in my 64 stepper.

Re: wiper motor /washer question
I also wanted windshield washers and a radiator overflow I pulled a washer/overflow combo from a Ford Exploder. Cleaned up the crusty over flow side with Lowe's cheap version of CLR, moved my horn to a 73 C-10 location next to the radiator between the grille & radiator support and moved the voltage regulator & horn relay to the front side of the radiator support using the existing holes. Less than $22.00 including the CLR stuff and now it's all good. I'm CHEAP!!!!!

Re: wiper motor /washer question
Talk to MarkeB. He did this conversion on his truck.

Re: wiper motor /washer question
64shortbox...I like the work you did, but Im looking for an stock look. the assembly book shows two different mounting locations for the factory bottle. In one pic it shows th ebottle to the right of the radiator and in another it shows it mounted on the firewall by the master cylinder. Also...did Chevy trucks ever use the OptiKleen glass bottles or always plastic jugs?
