Glasspack help.

I want to get some glasspacks for my truck. I want it to be REALLY loud, but I need some advice/information that someone can give me. What is the best brand. What is the best size. Also, I want some that don't sound really stupid or with a high pitch noise. Something that has a low rumble and sounds cool.

I had Dynomax Bullets on my 71 with a stout 355. It had headers with 3 inch pipe with the bullets. I thought they sounded great and it was so loud I didn't even put a radio in it, just a delete plate. That was even with the exhaust routed all the way out to the bumper.

im a big fan of cherrybombs !! id get 20" or a little longer with 2 1/2 inch pipes ! right now Im running some brand of glasspacks on mine that i got with one of my parts trucks running a 355sbc , headers dual 2 1/2" pipes with a crossover , I ran it straight for a few days but put the glass packs on helped tone it done still sounds bad !!!!! not sure what good a radio will do me but it will have one eventually .

I want cherrybomb glasspacks. I did have some cheap headers, but now we had the mechanic shop put in ram horns. The headers were in the way of something I think. My dad knows what the problem was. Anyway, I heard cherrybombs were the best to get (my dad said this too), but will they be that loud if I have the ram horns in? I did also hear that the shorter the glasspacks, the louder it will be. Any info you all need, I will give.

You want loud? These little 12 inchers will get the job done. Don't know what size pipe you have, but the ones below are for 2-1/2

Yes, if your goal is JUST loud, then leave pipes off. And of course get a ticket. Which you can also get if you're running around town flooring it to make noise and make yourself giggle even WITH mufflers.

But, I'd submit, that over time you'd appreciate the mufflers with the BEST sound, not the loudest.

Still pretty loud, even with ram's horns, are cherry bombs and, my favorite, Smithy's.

Too bad nobody still sells the old Thrush glass packs...

If you want loud, go buy the cheapest glasspacks you can find. After a couple thousand miles, you'll blow em out anyway.

OK, the above recommendation, for the love of god, no. i havent gotten around to putting mufflers on my truck yet, i dont drive her so not a big deal. i have long tube headers, and right now no mufflers, and its so loud, its slightly unbearable, and i work on/around aircraft so i know loud. im gonna tell you this, loud is great, but when your obnoxious sounding, people are gonna hate to hear it, you'll hate to hear it, and it will turn heads as in what is that noise. glass packs are, and this is my opinion, annoying. ive had them, and its not a good sounding loud. it crackles and pops, and if you dont have a beefed up motor, everyone will tell that your engine is stock, and powerless. here is my recommendation, if you want your loud, look at a flowmaster 10 series or cherry bomb extreme. itll get you the loud you want. IF you want louder sound, great smooth tone that makes your truck sound amazing, and sound like it has power and people will complement you, flowmaster 40, or super 44s. they sound incredible on chevys. here, look at this video, make sure you have good headphones or good speakers.

just remember that when the guy shows the straight pipe sound, he has a built motor. glasspacks/straight pipes are too loud. loud is good, it draws attention, to loud and crackling popping of glasspacks, sounds like a wore out old truck, and will draw the wrong attention.

They arent legal in some states due to length. they bolt onto the headers flange, and he has ramhorns so that wouldnt work, far as i know, arkansas has the rule of must exit past the cab/ past seats, not positive but im sure other states have similar rules

Cherry bomb makes 8 inch too. I don't like the louvers, though you can install them backwards so they don't "catch" and go into the fiberglass. I think magnaflow makes the perforated glasspack with the steel wool type filler stuff so it doesn't blow out, and flows better since its perforated and not louvered.

Summit brand glass pack are the best bang for the buck and are very loud..

I have true dual 2.5 inch pipes with 30inch magnaflow glass packs on the truck an it sounds awesome, nice deep rumble at idle but you'll hear me when I get on it. And mind doesnt pop or crack

For clarification/information - the headers installed by the PO were too close to the frame rails and either the frame rails or the headers would need extensive modifications to properly fit so we opted to go back to the factory ram horn exhaust manifolds. The truck has flowmaster mufflers on it now. We won’t know exactly what the sound quality will be with this setup until we get his truck back from the shop. My son is concerned that it will be too quite (he definitely wants to disturb the peace – oh to be sixteen again – LOL). I think he will be pleased with the setup as is, but if not, he has my permission to slap some glass packs on it and this is the reason for his questions and I guess mine too.

I've had many glasspacks over the years; As a teenager i installed 14" ones on my 86 monte carlo ss was way loud never got a ticket, cut them off couple years ago for some chamber mufflers like them better but kept my glasspacks
I got some 18" on my 85 truck sounds good to me not real loud when just cruisin. Have some 30" on a 1975 nova and they sound good and different i get many comments on how it sounds (was my dads suggestion on these). The one thing you need to think about is if you are going on long drives with the truck you will get tired of hearing the drone while long open driving i think about that now more than ever after i drove my 97 daily driver truck (with flowmasters) on a 2,000 mile trip and i was sick of hearing that sound.

i have 20" or 22" cherrybombs on my 454, really nice deep rumble at idle. mounted about 1/2 way between cab and rear axle kicking out just before tires. and when wide open is desired they sound just like open headers (tested this fact )

I like that 50's hotrod sound, so I stick with Porter mufflers. Steel packed instead of fiberglass.

I run 40 series Flows through 3" pipe that dumps out right in front of the rear tires. Sets off car alarms just idling through parking lots.

I say go without. If you have a relatively stock 350 and full 2" pipes over the axle, they are not too loud. I have had 2 late model fuel injected with cats and no mufflers and they sound really "tinny" (89 IROC Z and my 83 K20). They need a flowmaster or something chambered to break up the sound. I have had glasspacks on a few vehicles, but honestly good quality turbo mufflers like Walker Dynomax have enough noise to make me happy, enough free flow to keep the engine happy, and a good rumble. The turbo mufflers have less backpressure than most glasspacks. My .02

If I were you I'd look at Spintech's I don't have the loudest they make, but when my in laws were following me one day, they said people were doing everything to get a look at my truck. Mine are loud, but the best part I have no drone cruising and they don't have the tinny sound like flowmasters. These sound like now others and you'll get the attention you want, and not just by being loud.

agree 100% Love those mufflers. sound great on a V8 but sound pretty cool on a 6 banger too.
