cupholder idea!

so i've been tinkering with my old truck and think of stuff to do to it, and i had an idea while cleaning my dodge out for a road trip. i noticed in the back seat under the center console of the front seat was a cupholder that slides out into the back seat.

heres my idea, and somebody may have done it but why not take one and turn it around and mount it under out bench seat? that way it can slide back to look factory but still be functional?

Re: cupholder idea!

if I'm not mistaken the 1 on my Dakota was plastic so mounting could be a small problem or maybe just remove entire thing as a unit

Re: cupholder idea!

thats what i'm saying. as far as i could tell from feeling under neath it, it's just two bolts holding it on. bolt that to the frame of ur seat and you'd be good.

Re: cupholder idea!

I was thinking there was someone that sold these, only made of polished aluminum, or stainless. Not exactly what your referring to, but along the same lines....

Re: cupholder idea!

Something like this?
http://www.thehotrodgirl.com/bicupho.html

I've seen these made by several people, and several different prices. This is just the first one I came across. I know $80 is a lot to swallow for such a simple idea, but it would make a nice finishing touch. I'm just not a big fan of plastic parts in a metal truck..... but that's only my 3 cents!

Re: cupholder idea!

Do what i did and cleanned up an old wheel center cap, painted it and skrewed it down to the floor right in front of the seat. Works like a charm and i already had the center cap.

Re: cupholder idea!

i just think it'd look nice and it'd be mostly hidden. it's black and not a shiny plastic. it'd blend in really well with a black bench, especially if you had a high hump

Re: cupholder idea!

There were aftermarket cup holders that would slide into the location of the stock ashtray in these trucks. But no body makes them anymore. They were pretty slick, cuz you would put the front cover from the ashtray on it and you wouldn't know a cupholder was in there.

If anyone knows if they are still available... that would be dope.

Re: cupholder idea!

I've been thinking of a cup holder for a while, think the best solution for me would be to modify the top of my buddy bucket console. There was a thread about a Toyota cup holder that fit into the ash tray I guess with some modification. Dunno about a bench.

Re: cupholder idea!

GASoline71 That would be super slick, ive only seen the do it yourself thread on this. it would be nice to buy a replacement since i have an empty hole where the ash tray once was. hopefully there is still a direct cup holder replacement for the ash tray.

Re: cupholder idea!

I may be mistaken but wasn't there a 2 cupholders unit that fit in the ashtray hole in one of the latest LMC catalogues ?? I will have a look. It wouldn't be hidden at all however and it appearred that you lost the use of the ashtray because the cupholder fit right in there like the ashtray does.

Re: cupholder idea!

Just pulling random webpages. Not doing any research.

http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodin...number=ATC6772
http://www.sporttruck.com/techarticl...ion/index.html

Like the tech article one. Now I didn't look to see if brothers still made that kit, but that type of cup holder is very common, factory in many newer cars. Sure you could aquire one and adapt to fit.
