Camshaft condition question..
We bought a kit from Northern, and I was curious is this is normal condition for said cam? This is right out of the box, so ..

Looks like other cams I have bought or seen, except for rollers. Always looks less than impressive, but I guess that's one of several reasons for the break in period.

looks like a re-ground cam to me.... They take old cams and grind them into a mild performance cam. Kinda like grinding a crankshaft

The heat treating / hardnening process doesn't leave the metal looking very pretty now does it.

Looks normal to me too. Between the lobes always looks rough. That cam might be heat treated or Nitrided... that's why it looks dark and "un-smooth".
