Just installed a tilt column in my truck and was surprised at how nuch play there is in the tilt mechanism. I went through and checked all three bearing before installing they were fine and got repacked with grease. What did i miss?

Are you talking about movement in the steering wheel area, or the knuckle for the tilt shaft....

I guess the knuckle. If i grab the steering wheel i can move it up and side to side a bit. It is pivoting about the tilt axis.
