Best riding "comfort" shock?

Not that my 3/4T Longhorn will ever ride like my wife's Escalade with Magnetic Ride Control, but as part of my restoration I need a set of shocks, so might as well find out what will improve the ride!

So far the only option I've seen that's correct is the LMT "HD" gas-charged shock. If you read pretty much every other shock listing I've found, it says "Except Custom Camper and Heavy Duty", both of which are my truck.

While I'd like it to remain stable on the highway, I don't plan on doing much if any towing and I certainly won't be road-coursing the thing, so really its a question of ride quality.

Anyone have any experience with different shocks?

Nobody? Everyone's got shocks, so -someone- must have an opinion :-)

I have KYB's and once I removed the rear leaf spring-helpers. the ride improved. This truck used to have a slide-in Camper and now it's just the topper in my Avatar. Again like you said; it is a truck, but now it's not a buckboard.

Bilstein have always provided the best ride quality and control I have experienced but will also run a bit more than most. KYB Gas Adjust are a nice ride and affordable.

I love my Monroe Senstracs! Im bagged, but I can tell you that shocks make all the different in the world. My truck literally rides better than my wife's Lexus RX330.

I would think Bilsteins would be give you a great ride and excellent everyday handling, and probably outlast the truck.

I have monroe sensa-tracs as well, and I'm pleased with them. I have rear HD coils, and I've noticed the sensa-tracs don't quite dampen within one suspension deflection in the rear. The front rides beautifully. I imagine with non-HD springs, the sensa-tracs would be perfect since the non-HD springs have less of a tendancy to be so stiff and bouncy.

I've thought about going with the gas-adjust mentioned above because I've heard they're a bit stiffer and will control the bounce better, but I like the ride I have now... so I always carry about 200lbs in the bed to tone down the increased harshness of the HD springs.

Leaf springs on your 3/4-ton won't ride like your Escalade...and it ain't the shocks.

My '69 1/2-ton with coils all the way around rode great, once I got rid of the 2000-lb coils when I did the ECE conversions and upgrades. On the other hand, my '96 with leaf springs on the rear rides like a rock. It sucks. The difference between coils and leaves on the rear is making me want a 4-link on the rear of my late model.

I have played with shocks. It has had Toxic Shocks all the way around. It is dropped 2/4. I felt like the Toxic Shocks were the problem, so I replaced them with shocks for a Tahoe. Those shocks were SensaTracs. I decided they weren't working, so I ordered Summit Racing sport truck shocks on the rear. Then, because I didn't like the ride, I added Bell Tech upper mount relocators for the rear. It helped, but I am still not satisfied with the ride.

If it had a coil spring rear suspension....I wouldn't be unhappy at all.
