My new 1971 K20
Just bought this K20 last Friday evening. It's my 5th 67-72 truck but my first non-1970....for some reason, all my others have been 1970's. This truck has a 100% rust free body....the best original I have ever seen. Original paint, nice interior, new tires. It was traded to John Elway Chevrolet by the original owner (he bought a new Duramax). It has a 6.2 turbo diesel (detroit diesel...yes, I know that these engines are not powerhouses like the Cummins or Ford's or Duramax) engine. It runs and drives very well. It even has a Winnebago KD-KAP shell on it (soon to be for sale on the parts board).
Took me a long time to find one like this....plans are to remove the shell and the mudflaps and to use it for hunting and fun.

Some more pics....All the cab supports look this nice....no rust that I can find anywhere...I think he never drove it in the winter....full instrumentation for the diesel...oil temp, water temp, boost, Exhaust temp, tach and hour meter.
The guy took amazing care of this truck.

You did great buying that with a 6.2 to boot. I've be considering doing that swap in my '72 K2500. It has a Banks Sidewinder kit on it,huh? I'd like to know how the tach is picking up RPMs,when you get a chance to look it over more. I'm guessing there's a sensor at the crank pulley with a magnet on the pulley,maybe?

I forgot to type an important fact you should know about that truck and engine combination. I'M JEALOUS AS ALL!!! Like I said,I've thought about doing this swap ,myself (off and on for 20 or more years). How cool is that to look and see this 67-72 K/20 (that's enough of an attention getter right there),then here this clackitty diesel sound humming along? These engines actually run very smooth. I drive an '85 Jimmy with one and picture myself driving my '72 and what that would be like...awesome! Can't beat the mileage,either.Makes it something practical to drive,still,today.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. It is a neat old truck.
Special-K....I like the diesel so far...I usually hear negatives about the 6.2...good to hear some positives...I will check to see how the tach is setup...got an oil leak on the front of the pan gasket to deal with...other than that, it drives really nice. Think I'm going to have to sell one of my other trucks so I can afford to do some stuff to this one....

Boy that cap brings back some memories
That trucks way too nice to bang up in the brush on hunting expeditions. No excuses needed for the 6.2/6.5 TD , they're solid, dependable powerplants once you attend to a few of their well known personality traits.

Sweet truck! I had an 82 3/4 ton suburban with a 6.2. We drive it 345k miles when someone wanted me to part it for the engine. It still didn't use oil and got an average of20 mpg! The 6.2 was a good plant, it just had it's limitations. We went through 3 injector pumps before 100k, then found a guy who modified the pumps with a solid plate instead of the rubber coupling. That pump had over 200k on it and was still going. I my parked the truck because it had a phantom short and would start cranking on it's own sometimes, even with no key in the ignition! I tried replacing everything, except the harness to no avail, and ruined four batteries!
