Re: diesel conversion question
A conversion is worth it if you plan to keep it, IMO. I would like a SWB truck with a 12 V cummings!!! A turbo would be a plus!!
If the dually does not have it, . If it does have it, then a right buyer will want it for towing. Last edited by old Rusty C10; 06-13-2012 at 08:35 AM. |

Re: diesel conversion question
How much do you currently have in the truck? Do you already have the cummins? I would say the cheapest unless you are luck to do a cummins swap would probably be $3k. That is if you find really good deals and plan on keeping everything stock. If you have more than $2k in the truck and you do the cummins swap for $3k (keep in mind there are a lot of variables when it comes to doing these swaps, that is just kind of a ball park guess) I there might be a chance you could make your money back for $5k. But anymore than that and I really doubt it. Cummins swaps are really seem to be only worth if if you plan on using the truck for a while before selling it. If you are trying to make a profit off of your truck then I dont think a cummins swap would be worth the cost because I doubt it would add much more value to the truck unless you found someone that just had to have the truck.

Re: diesel conversion question
It'll definitely help on the value of your truck. However, it would not be worth it to do the conversion just so you could sell it for more money. Get the conversion done for you to enjoy, not for someone else to enjoy.

Re: diesel conversion question
Yes, increased value. However, like others have said, it would be ridiculous to spend $2000 just to increase the value by $800. It's a great swap if you want to keep it and use it.

Re: diesel conversion question
If you can sell your truck for $3k and buy the motor for $600 I am sure you could sell it for about $1k or so. Putting the cummins in the truck and selling it your not going to make any money. You still have to think about transmission, and if its an auto you may have to run a stand alone computer and you have to have cooling lines... etc.. Manual is a little cheaper but they are becoming hard to find for a good deal.

Re: diesel conversion question
Good luck. The price on those first gen's have gone up a lot the last while. It's hard to even find a rusted out 1st gen parts truck for $2500.

Re: diesel conversion question
ok it seems that youve gotten your answer nd im locking this thread. I guess the fact that i eliminated refrences to you selling your trucks didnt seem to be noticed. You are not allowed to mention these kinds of things as a non sub as it leads to someone wanting to buy your truck here and as a non sub youre not suppoused to sell.
