Vent Delete

I was wondering if anyone has ever removed the vents by the feet (kick panel area) and if so, do you have picks?

Re: Vent Delete

I removed the vent assemblies and covered the holes with steel plates attached with sealant and pop rivets. Diamond tufted ABS panels where then attached with Christmas tree fasteners:

Re: Vent Delete

I`m currently sealing my vent buckets to use as speaker buckets and reinstall. All I ever got got was leaves and junk blowing in when opened....

Re: Vent Delete

I went with the speaker option. I just took the door off and covered it with Plexi glass and left the vent housing in just so water would not kill my speaker. And if I remember right I sealed the back of the box also. Hey I did this over 10 years ago I can't remember everything..

Re: Vent Delete

Vintage Air's new Gen IV system comes with a plate for the passenger side. I would assume that you could get a couple of those. They bolt right up and a bead of sealer should make them nice and tight.

Re: Vent Delete

So just cover them up and you don't need to seal them off from wherever they get their air from?

I like the idea of putting the speakers there, but I'm no mechanic and am curious how you block them off?

I would build a sheetmetal box, or block off the air passage. At highway speeds, there is a fair amount of pressure there. I'm sure your speakers would not be happy.

Wow, with no breeze (A/C) I can imagine loosing my crotch coolers. They all look good but that breeze on the knees is nice to have.

Re: Vent Delete

The '65 had 6x9 speakers in the vent holes when we got it. We ran those same speakers for awhile but in the summertime, without the vents was killer! I ended up relocating the speakers to under the seat and reinstalling the vents. Waaay better! We need those vents in our part of the country...

Or just don't leave your truck abandoned under a tree for decades.

LOL, my thoughts also. I stuff a rag in there in the winter however so they don't freeze.

Re: Vent Delete

I was curious because I found some deep rust in that area and wanted to remove the vent and the outside panel going up and weld it shut. Thanks for the photos, if you all have more, keep them coming.

Re: Vent Delete

I thought about blocking mine off at one point but with the heat here in Florida I decided that would be a bad idea... Those vents are my only A/C!!
