Going to the junkyard Friday

Hey gang, heading to this very cool and very UN-picked over yard tomorrow. This yard has stuff from the 30's to the late 70's...and not much else. last time I was there there was about 15-20 73-80 trucks, and they had lots of parts (I got a tach dash!).

If anyone wants me to pick something up I can, but keep in mind it has to be smaller stuff and not body parts or stuff like that...I am not going to attempt to pull sheet metal, besides, this is Minnesota...the rust belt. I am also not a millionaire...so don't start making x-mas list here!

SO if you are interested you have roughly 8 hours to reply here, If I find it I will try and get it.

Joe, do you still want the small 73-87 sport mirrors?

...Jeff

Hey, I know this is a little different, but try to see if they have any junked 67-72 trucks, and grab the tach dashes you see...also look in any bigger (C/40, /50, /60, /70 etc) trucks to see if they have a tach dash..alot do. I'd like one but I cant really afford it, but I've heard of people getting a tach dash for $10-$20 from a larger truck in a junkyard, then turn around and sell for $200-$300. Also look for 67/68 and 69-72 factory towhooks. They go for alot too.

There are quite a few 67-72 trucks there too...but I don't think any have tach dashes (a buddy of mine has already looked)...but I will keep an eye out anyways.

Do you have a pic of a factory installed tow hook? I am not a 67-72 expert so I wouldn't have a clue.

I am also bringing a camera, and will share some photos!

Well, from what I have gathered, there are 3 kinds of 67-72 towhooks...there are 67/68, 69-72, and 69-72 with a curve.

This pic is the 67/68 style:

This is the 69-72 kind with the curve:

Edit: there are even 2 different kinds of this style. I have seen some (like in the pic) that are both curved in the same direction. There is also a set that both curve inward. Isn't it kinda rediculous that there were this many styles of towhook?
Oh yeah, I think that chromed towhooks don't exist. They all seem to be painted.

If you see any 48-55 Chevy/GMC look for some corner rear window glass , no cracks or pits would be nice. They are real easy to remove with a pocket knife !!!!

Jeff:

Could use some spare instrument bezel plastic lenses, without the hole for the clock adjustment. They need to be clear & not faded or all scratched up. I am finding them to be a rare commodity and hard to find as they have discontinued selling new ones.

79 interior kick panels

I am looking for a set of dark red interior kick panels for a 1979 Blazer without factory a/c. These are the pieces that surround the fresh air intake vents that are at foot level.

bigblock,

Where is this yard you speak of and do they have any Oldsmobiles in there? Finding stuff for my 69 is a pain in the arse around here. If this yard has anything, I would be willing to drive there to take a look. I am planning a trip that way soon anyways with my truck to pick up an engine/transmission combo.

Well, had a fun day today...but didn't get anything I needed! I did get a very nice '55 Chev tailgate with orig paint I am going to hang on my garage wall as a decoration and I also got my BB radiator cover top piece...both for $25. There was a 78 or 79 4x4 long box that looks like it just arrived (and drove in there)...and it had a 400 in it....boy was that tempting!!

I could not find any useable gauge lenses without the hole...but there were at least five that I saw...all were clouded up or cracked.

I did see some kick panels in red, but all had the AC option, the one that had a red interior and NO AC already had them romoved.

I only saw one or two 5 window cabs...but no rear corner glass was left.

Tow hooks, saw pletny of 4x4s of the 67-72 variety...but NON had tow hooks...or tach dashes...they must be desireable.

Chris, I left before you replied...but I saw a few red interior Blazers...didn't look for seatbelts though.

I went to two yards today...one called "Windy Hill" and the other called "Rohners". Rohners is in Wilmar Minnesota, Windy Hill is in the next town or two...but can't remember the name. Rohners is the place to go if you need 67-72 or 73-80 stuff! There was no less than 50 67-72 trucks, blazers, and burbs...and about the same 73-80 count...simply amazing. Most of the stuff is not too picked over...but the cars are just "thrown" in there and getting to some of them can be a challenge. Both places have PLENTY of 20's-70's stuff...most being of the 50's era.

If you want to have fun, go to Rohners and spend the entire day...you will need it!

On a side note, found a pair of 91 burb power doors...the owner wanted $65 each!! I paid $400 for mine and they are just as nice and in damn near perfect shape! If only I had the space...

-Jeff

You should have bought the doors and turn around and sell them at a profit.

They can be bought brand new. I have seen them in the actual store, but can not find them on their web site. They are located here in Phoenix, Az.
www.GrumpysTruckParts.com

Here is their phone number: 1-800-457-8679
or send them an email here: grumpysrus@aol.com
Call them and ask. I know they have them behind the counter hanging on the wall. Brand new and perfectly clear. I think they were around $40-50 each.
