Check out the K5 soft top.
Hey members, check out the soft top on this K5.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6154 I think that is the best-looking 1st gen soft top I have seen. I would like to get one complete with rail angles and top bows. I asked the owner for info. Any assistance in locating manufacturer would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. ...Dan |

Also check out the speaker mounts up front. They are awesome I think.
How would you go about making something like that?

LMC sells a kick panel cover that has one 6" speaker (I think) but it sits flush, doesn't stick out weird like those.

Dixie, those kick panels are probably custom made. Any competent car stereo installation shop should be able to build some. There are also lots of places on the net that tell you how to build them yourself. There is a company called Q-forms that make them for newer trucks, but I don't think they make them for our trucks yet.

Here are some links to sites that tell you how to make kick panel installations. I'm going to have a go at making some simple pods to install some 4"JBL,s in my truck. (Previous owner cut the doors for 6x9's, but at the back edge so I need some front fill as most of the treble gets soaked up by the seat/my butt!)
http://ww2.esn.net/jbw/kicks/kicks.htm http://www.elitecaraudio.com/install...ages/index.php The following is an audio forum, it is a UK forum so expect not to understand some of it, or what some of the cars are, there are lots of irritating young idiots but also some guys who really know their stuff. http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/forum/ Hope these help.

You can get the top made at a boat top place. I bet it was expensive. You should be able to take them an old top to use as a pattern. I'm sure they could adjust the length a little to get the steeper rear window area.
Boardrider- I like your kick panels but how do they work with the e-brake? I saved that picture of the speakers from the e-bay truck a few days ago. It actually looks a lot like my truck, but a lot nicer!

and the only bad thing about the soft top is that you have to have snap on buttons attached to the side of the truck and i don't know about you guys but when i take the top off i don't want those buttons showing

The buttons on my top are on a rail that bolts to the top of the bed rail. The bows are also attached to the same rail. The top folds down into the area behind the rear seat. There are snaps screwed into the top of the windshield frame. The one on e-bay goes over the tops of the bed rails. Judging by the placement of the first bow, I bet that top takes up most of the bed when it is folded into the bed.

THats a pretty nice interior for a soft top.Guess he don't run it in the mud with the top down/off.I called about a stc top. They where nice to talk to very helpful.I want to get one without windows in the side.Said they make the top when ordered,so that is no problem.

My top is actually a Kayline - but my understanding is that STC bought the patterns from Kayline when they when out of business. My only complaint is that the top has velcro attachments to the bars over doors and the velcro comes off all the time. I want to just pull it off and put on some snaps.
