Best New 67 Fleetside Box Sides?

Hi guys , just joined this great forum, just picked up a 67 shorbox from a friend, and I want to take the stepside off, and install a fleetside. Of course finding a good used one is impossible, I am not sure if there is more than one manufacturer of fleetside boxsides, but I want to buy the best quality I can. I would appreciate all of your feedback, Thanks, Nathan

Look in salvage yards and Craigslist, new repop are going to be very expensive

Can't argue with that. An orginal bed that needs a little work is cheaper than a brand new bed that needs a lot of work. See if you can find a good O.G. bed that needs love or do what you can to assemble one that is a good split between new and old. Bed sides and floors are the killer not to mention a bed is as complex as a motor when it comes to all the little pieces. Unless you can find a nice used bed for cheap, switching beds is gonna be pricey.

Hey tinnhound ...

to te forum and from Ohio.

What I did was buy ($1000) a take off bed. If your patient these do pop up and are a better buy then new repop beds. Good Luck

If you want new, make sure it's a keyparts panel or tri-plus. They fit great from my experience...

Re: Best New 67 Fleetside Box Sides?

I believe Key Parts sells the same as everyone else in this case. I believe there is only one maker of these. Things may have changed on this in the recent past, but that's how it was a couple years ago. Generally on big and expensive to produce stuff like this, once one maker puts it out,the rest leave it to them cuz splitting the market kills it. The reproduction beds go together very nicely and there's really no reason, other than expensive,to stay away. They are not integral with the cab, like other sheet metal,so none of the fitment issues arise with them. Finding a nice short bed is a tough find. I doubt you'd ever find a 40 year old new take off. By the time you figure massaging a used bed or bed parts into shape the cost of a new bed really isn't bad. I'd buy the bed sides from someone I trust and,if at all possible, from somewhere I could pick them up to avoid adding shipping and added risk of damage.

Re: Best New 67 Fleetside Box Sides?

Gburdic used an aftermarket bed and if I remember correctly he was happy with it, hopefully he will comment on this. I have seen one complete aftermarket bed in person at Classic Auto in OKC and it looked real nice. I think they are about $2500 though. I would imagine they (OG beds) are hard to come by in decent shape in Canada, They are real hard to find in OK that's for sure.

Re: Best New 67 Fleetside Box Sides?

Thanks Dan.....Yep, I used a complete aftermarket bed....bought it from a local vendor and took it straight to the body shop for prep and paint I was concerned that it was repop because I knew that the doors were crap, BUT the bed went together great...only small complaint is that with my truck being stored in the garage besides my wife's car, it did that a few small dings from the rear passenger door opening a little too far

Teh only "small" parts were the bolts and nuts.....nothing really to putting together other than making sure it's square You can click on my build thread for pictures

Good info all as I wondered about the quality of these beds...

Looks like if you buy the right aftermarket beds you are good to go

Re: Best New 67 Fleetside Box Sides?

Its good to hear you guys say the aftermarket stuff is good. I had to take my bed off and clean it up to make it useable. It still has thick bondo in places and lots of other defects that make it not worth rebuilding. I've looked around and good used pieces are hard to find here too. Ok, so its not as complex as an engine but it can get awful fiddly. Now price is my only concern.

They are only one 1967 but they are two 68-72's on the market.

Re: Best New 67 Fleetside Box Sides?

I bought mine from Wes at classic heartbeat. Best fitting after market panels i have ever bought. chrome moldings fit very nicely. Didn't have to round out one hole and my original 67 tailgate and front panel fit very nicely. in my opinion compared to my originals i saved myself a lot of money from what body work costs these days. Rod.

Welcome to the forum from way down here in Central Florida!
Like everybody else said..they arn't cheap, but your step bed is worth good money also....maybe you can find someone and work out a trade.
Good luck.

Re: Best New 67 Fleetside Box Sides?

I'm in the same boat, my fleetside needs alot of rust repair so I decided it would be alot quicker and easier to buy a whole repop bed. So I will be purchasing one in the next couple of weeks from GMCPauls. They have had great customer service and have answered all my questions and my numerous emails. I'm glad to see the repop beds are getting a good review here.

Re: Best New 67 Fleetside Box Sides?

Thanks for all of your input guys, I was talking to a couple of dealers today that sell the Keypart panels and also Golden Leaf/Dynacorn panels, apparently there is one other manufacturer of these, but I didn't get the name. My biggest concern is quality, years ago I installed several sets of quarter panels on cars for friends, and quality was hit and miss with some of them, the lines were not accurate and crisp like the originals. I really appreciate all of your help!

I used dynacor on mine and just waited for a sale. I bought 2 different used short bed fleetside's . I paid $800 for one and roughly $1000 for another. Both looked good at first, but when I looked deeper, they were not good enough for my likings. I got my money back, but wasted allot of time when I should have just bought new in the beginning. I'm real happy with the dyna stuff, it's nice a heavy.
